Here in the Canaries we have Calimas and also Siroccos Right now we're having a mix of the two in Playa Blanca. We can't see the Femes mountains at all, or the ocean, and the wind (which has dropped in severity from last night) is very warm. I love the temperature of this current one. The last one we had was in early September last year - and was nasty! It lasted for about 36 hours... and was like having a hairdryer on full heat being held to your face. Our duck thermometer was reading 47 degrees at one point. We stayed in, close all the curtains, and only ventured out to jump in the pool (which was frequent). Ooh, speaking of which - I might just go have a dip later! Flooey xx

Today was worse than yesterday, and I think the furthest thing we can see is some houses about 150 yards away - but beyond that we can't see anything. Mind you - there's nothing then until Costa Papagayo anyway. I can't see Josie's place... which is about 300 yards away from us.
Just been up to PdC and Matagorda. Yaiza had it the worst... closely followed by Carmen. You could actually taste it in Matagorda... and I don't know if plane fumes sit in the dust or not.
Came back home over the Femes mountains, and couldn't see anything at the top, beyond the mini roundabout at the bottom.
Just started raining now... so it might clear it.
Flooey xx

Elle has no concept of distance.... Josie's place is probably about 3/4 of a mile away!
Visibility is actually about 1,5km rather than the 150 yards stated... puh!

I don't mean to be picky but if you agree that Josies place is 3/4 mile away and you are saying that visibility is 1.5KM then that is 0.9320567883555 of a mile so how come Flooey can't see it? Keith.

OK so I don't know the difference between 300yds and 3/4mile either - but that 's because female brains have more important things to think about. Really p'd off that we hosed our terrace down before leaving. That was a waste of time when we could have been doing something more useful - like having another glass of wine with our friends 300yds or 3/4 mile away! But look at the temperature - 24 degrees as I type. Worth a bit of dust I reckon! J x

Well, according to Josie she has other things on her mind Keith... I don't mean to be picky but if you agree that Josies place is 3/4 mile away and you are saying that visibility is 1.5KM then that is 0.9320567883555 of a mile so how come Flooey can't see it? Keith.

Pfft! Actually we can't see it because Will's complex is in the way. But if Josie could move her place about 20 feet to the right... and stood on her roof - and I stood on mine - then we could wave to each other. If I wasn't terrified of heights that is.

So we are calling Flooey 'wrong' then for her "I can't see Josie's place... which is about 300 yards away from us" comment. What she meant was "I can't see Josie's place because it's at the bottom of the hill and not actually visible from here on the clearest of days" ah ha I see now. Yes I'm bored, depressed and very sad. Keith.

LMAO! I meant originally that I couldn't see Josie's place to give an idea of distance. But no - even on a clear day I can't see it - as it's slightly to the left behind other buildings... and it's not down a hill Bart - that's a gentle incline! You told me that thing we climbed in the Lake District was a hill - I thought it was a monutain! Montaña Roja was easier than THAT!
We love you Keith - don't ever change!
Good luck with the workload Josie. I'm off to crash out on the sofa and see what DVD Bart's just put on.
Flooey xx

how's this for anorak of the night award, as the crow flies it's 1.07kM or 0.66 miles from Flooeys place to Josies place. And you're right Wills place is smack in line. It.s 0.21 miles from mine to Barts. and 0.82 from mine to Josies. None of these measurements count if you can't walk in a straight line, Josie

You certainly take it hands down Flash. I wondered who 'that man' with the measurement wheel was out late at night. Keith.
