Hi there

Am a newbie poster to the site although I have the addie saved to my faves for a while. Hubby and I visit Lanzarote every year, would be alot more if finances were better and they will be once kids are independent. The two of us are heading over again this August but have at last persuaded our family (brother mother etc) to take a Christmas holiday. We of course sold them on the idea of Lanzarote, I could not think of anywhere else we could be as comfortable and relaxed. We tried to explain what Lanzarote energy feels like but it has to be experienced. So this year we will at last be visiting twice. We stay in PDC but usually take a car and go around the island for a day or two, then back to the chilling out with a book by the pool or on the beach. Roll on AUGUST  Grin

Hi sue and welcome to the Forum.

We are all a friendly lot on here but we're also slightly mad but you'll soon get used to us.  Grin
I'm sure we will all try our best to answer any questions you have but it seems that you love Lanzarote as much as the rest of us.

Hiya Sue, welcome to the "happy house" !!
I'm like you, I love PDC. Came back a couple of weeks ago, had a brill time as per.
Get the family over there for Christmas Sue. I've done it for the past 2 years, crimbo & New Year, AND I go on my own,,,, its brill !! Sat in the sunshine on the beach on Christmas day is something never to be forgotten. I don't even consider staying home anymore over the festive period, its just not worth it. Its a bit weird the first time, but I'll guarantee they'll do it again... definately. Break with tradition, pack yer cozzy & head off for the sun..... I've already booked my Christmas dinner in Keans Bar !! LOL,,, honest..
Have a great time in August..

Hola Sue, and welcome to the forum. Glad you've liked the site so far... and even more pleased that you "get" what so many of us do about Lanzarote!

August eh? You like it hot hot hot then!  Whereabouts do you normally go and about in PdC then?  There's a few Carmen fans in here, who will probably pop up and say hello to you.

Flooey xx

PS: Whilst I was posting this - Currylover Mick snuck in. Thought he might! Wink

Hi Sue

Speak for yourself Keith!

We first went to Lanzarote in 1996 in November and loved it so much we started visiting every christmas with parents and inlaws - suddenly christmas in the sunshine was the highlight of the year!  We now own an apartment in Playa Blanca and although we travel to a number of other countries when we're not working I still get that tingly feeling of knowing I've arrived back home when I land on the island.  Whe we retire we will spend every winter in Lanzarote.

Hope you enjoy your holidays and your time on this forum which is frequented by some lovely people.

We mix it between the new town and old town but Tom (hubby) loves live music so we tend to end up along the strip in one of the bars (Mulligans or the Indian place, cant remember the name lol) We have no where in particular but spent alot of time in Mulligans last year cos daughter and her friend was with us (15 yrs) and they went upstairs to the paradise club.

The dream is to retire to Lanzarote, we have a mobile by the beach in Ireland (Clogherhead) so the plan is to winter in Lanzarote and summer in Ireland....oh bliss

There will be 9 of us at Christmas, do you reckon we should book somewhere for dinner?(like Mick has)

Hi Sue - yes we know Mulligan's - that place is like the Tardis isn't it?

Yes, would definitely recommend booking your Christmas dinner if there's that many of you. You can probably do it when you are over in August... or if not, then have a look on the Puerto del Carmen page of the main site - as a few of those bars do Christmas dinner too. I know Jaspar's Bar does a good one, and I think The Rambler does too. You can email them from their web pages.

Oh yes, and if your hubby likes the live music in Mulligans... go to Agata Christy's bar. It's behind the American Indian cafe on the strip. Adrian the owner does a fab Chruisty Moore tribute act (AKA Christy in the name. Agata is his girlfriend and business partner... and an amazing chef!). I think there's a thread in the Puerto del Carmen section of the forum when someone went there recently.

Sue. I'm not sure if your familiar with Jaspars bar. Sue "the owner" of Jaspars always gets great reviews about the sunday dinners that they have, so no doubt the old crimbo dinner would be a "good do".. Keans bar put on a good nosh up last year; Drink of your choice when you walked in, 3 crackin courses plus a couple of bottles of vino plonked on the table, 20 euro's per head. then we stayed in there, and had a "few" more drinks of our choice !! ha ha ha....Awww it was ace, just sat in the sunshine, with a full belly & havin a chat with a few friends. Ya can't beat it....
Mick
PS. Flooey, I'm "snuckin" out now !!! Byeeee.... LOL,,,,  Shocked

We like our curries too and were delighted to find the buffet chinese restaurant but if you have any others you can recommend that would be great.

Hiya Sue.
Keans Bar. Walk up the Strip towards the old town. When you reach the "T" junction at the end, just keep left. Follow the road slightly downhill past Mr Kebabs & the little shops, and just follow the road round. Keans is more or less opposite the Farriones hotel. Ask for Christina or Emma. Christina's an old friend of mine, Romanian, but speaks perfect"ish" English so don't worry !! Could you do me a favor if ya get down to Keans Sue ? Ask Christina to make sure that she has booked "Mick" in for crimbo dinner for about 2 o'clock. Tell her I'll have the same as last year !! But not as many G n T's !! ha ha ha.... Christina's great fun. We used to have many a good laugh when she used to work in Ruta66 & The Hippodrome..
As for the Chinese buffet's. The best one I can personally recommend is at the bottom of cardiac hill. NOT The Chinese Dragon, upstairs on the corner. The one I went in is just past a couple of jewelry shops (don't go in)... Its called the Golden "something or other" not quite sure what, sorry, but the food is A1. About 7 euro's per head, eat as much as ya like.. They don't put piles of food in the trays at once, but they are forever filling em up, and they're nice people that run it.
If you look on the PDC section of this site Sue, I put a post on entitled; A few nice "tr" eateries. Just a few new restaurants that I tried when I was over a few weeks ago. Give it a going over Sue, see what ya think. It might give ya bit more of an idea.
If Indian curries are what you enjoy, I would normally recommend The Zafran up in the old town, just down the road from the Biosfera shopping centre on the right. But I've heard that recently they have changed chefs, so I can't really comment.
If your not sure wher Jaspars is, get a taxi !! ha ha ha.... But,,, if ya feel like a stroll. Jaspars is at the opposite end of The Strip to the old town. Look out for The Hawiian Bar on the beach side of the road, opposite is Banca March, Jaspars is up a few steps above Banca. Sue & the gang in Jaspars are great fun. Very family friendly.
Ohhh Sue, I've been home three weeks now,,, I need a holiday !! LOL.... I think I'll get on the old t'internet and see if I can find myself something for October. I can't wait till Christmas to go back, its toooo long to wait. Ya never know, we just might bump into each other !!
Have great time in August Sue. AND,,,,,,,, Don't forget yer Piz Buin sun cream, coz it'll be HOT HOT HOT. If three weeks ago was anything to go by, you'll certainly come home with a nice tan in August,,, 100% guaranteed.
Have an ace time
Mick.
If ya need anymore info just holler.... If I can't give ya the answers, there a plenty Lanza Lovers on here who will   Roll Eyes We're a friendly bunch really... Just hope Flooey's not "snuck" in before me on this one !! LOL

One little thing I forgot to mention Sue. If when your on yer hols & ya need any info. Nip up the street at the right hand side of Mulligans, that is if your stayin centrally. Its called Calle Anzuelo, look for the Supermakado Dos Mil 2. Just up the slight hill on the left is a small bar called Spenders. John & Steve (Biffa) will fill ya in on anything ya need to know, plus they're good company. Tell em Mick sent ya. John might pull yer leg a bit, but they're both good fun. Plus John's lived in Lanza for 10+ years so he's well clued up !! Have a gud un
