Hi everyone...
Couldnt believe my luck when I stumbled accross this forum, been hoping to find one for ages.
Let me introduce myself, Lucy, Im currently living in England in the north east but my heart is in Playa Blanca, I visit for holidays no where near as much as I would like to just do when I can afford to.
Visited Lanzarote since I was 11 and Im 30 now. Hope one day to move over to Playa Blanca, all depends on other halfs feelings and also the money etc I would need to get myself settled.
So, hello to everyone, looking forward to talking with you all, perhaps even in person as we are there September 25th for a week. It is Ewans first time abroad. Staying at Atlantic Gardens, havent stayed there before so it will be nice to try another place. Missed out on the apartment I wanted to try on the seafront but there will be many more times.
Im hoping to also pick all of your brains and get ideas or tips, plus the realistic side of a move. Im a domestic energy assessor here but would no doubt have to go back to front of house work at first which Im more than willing to do if it means getting a roof over my head there. Other half is a gardener. Cant see there beiong much call for energy advisors there lol. Learnt some spanish in school and trying to refresh myself and learn more with books and tapes etc. Dont want to be a rude none trying person.
Anyway I am waffling on now, hope you are all well, look forward to many a nights reading on here.
xx

Hi Lucy - and welcome. Whereabouts in the North East are you? Holidays: We can probably give a few pointers if you give us some ideas as to what you guys like. When were you last here? We can tell you whats changed since then Play Blanca is constantly growing at the moment... As for moving here you might find the blog we put together about our experiences of moving to Lanzarote useful (click on the words "moving to Lanzarote"). Career wise you´d have to have a bit of a re-think I imagine. Most people do... I for one don't worry to much about my heating bills

Hi Lucy
I always think Atlantic Gardens is a nice little spot - peaceful but not too far out of town. We are regulars in PB so ask away!

Hi and thankyou to you all for the replies and welcomes.
I was last in Lanzarote in 2005, stayed just in front of Montana Roja, was a lovely villa but I like to be in the centre of Playa Blanca. Ive got a couple of apartments saved into my favourites, just had this one booked already.
We are in Thornaby, down the road from Middlesbrough. We have ideas of what we would like to do for a living if we were to move, small shop selling local artists work, pottery, paintings and photos etc or even some form of craft shop. We are both the creative types so anything hands on is good but we know that the reality will be more like a few overlapping bar or restaurant jobs until we can get settled and get some capital together. All of this is really only something I guess you can do when you are in the bay.
Know last time I was there I had to fight with myself not to just sleep on the beach until I found a job etc. Some shops had signs in the windows and there were apartment ads even in the phone booth!
Thanks Lynn for the comment on Atlantic Gardens, makes me feel a bit better, although I dont think there are many bad places to stay, mostly good.
Im looking forward to seeing if the pubs and restaurants I used to like are still there, but if there have been changes since I last visited do let me know along with any bad places to avoid.
Danny, you should try Playa Blanca, ideal for a relaxing time, or maybe Im just getting on a bit lol.
Flooey... do you and Bart have a pub in PB? the names are familiar..?
I will pop back on later and have a good read through, one of our main concerns is if we could bring our cats, to add to the thousands there lol... If any of you are around when we visit do let me know where you hang out and if its ok we will pop along to say hi.

Hi Lucy and welcome!
We have an apartment in PB and have been visiting the island since 1996. You will notice quite a bit of development since 2005 but the atmosphere won't have changed much as it was already pretty busy then and the main shopping street was already pedestrianised.
Try following back through some of the Playa Blanca threads - there's been quite a bit of comment about restaurants on there lately.
Hope you have a great holiday.

Hi again Lucy. No we don't have a bar. Flooey and Bart are only online names. I'm Elle, and hubby is Alan. We do web design predominantly... but also own this very website too! What were your favourite bars before? Flooey xx

I remember years ago when the bay really only had a little shop, a small supermarket and a handful of restaurants. I was gobsmacked when I came back last time by the high street etc... Quite big now...
The bars I liked were, the one up the stairs near the rubicon harbour area and there was a bar in the limones square and a friendly bar in the main bay near the steps down to the sand... vague I know but me and names of pubs is not a good mix lol.... I think I will have to start at one end and work my way along just for research sake lol...
Ewan and I have started to really try and get our heads together to see what skills we have that we could adapt to make a living in Playa Blanca. We are getting married next September so have a wedding all organised here so it will have to be after that at least.
How long have you all lived there then? And what do you all do for a living?
Web design Flooey, wow wish I had the knowledge and skills. We talked about a laundrey service, used to do it before for b&bs,could maybe be adapted? Lots of number crunching and research to be done. In the meantime if ppl want to mail me links for properties they rent out fel free, always looking for a new holiday apartment to try.
