I have lived here since 1992 so I have seen a lot of changes. When I first came to Fuerte for a visit in 1990 we drove by Castillo and didn't bother to drive in as there was only one complex down at the harbour. Then when I came to live here I loved the cocktail bar at the harbour, and the Casa Nostra Italian Restaurant, which were the only places to go ! At night there was no street lighting and it was quite scary trying to get a taxi back home !

Obviously over the years I have seen the place getting bigger. Some people wouldn't class bigger as better, and that's a matter of taste. However the place has definitely improved in terms of street lighting and pavements and it is generally looking a lot better. I have spent a few days down there recently and I have thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the NEW IMPROVED CASTILLO !

Over the years I have had my favourite places to eat and drink. Scotch Corner is great for Irn Bru, friendly staff ( Sandra did me a BIG favour one time ), and all things British like sausages, pies and tea. Sometimes you feel like good old basic British food, and they do it well. When I think of going to Castillo I usually think of this place. Irn Bru in the sun ! Great !

Sticking with the Scottish theme, The Flower of Scotland is a great place for a night out , with music, karaoke, games and a good laugh in general.  Jane and John are the owners; a Scottish /Irish couple. Like Scotch Corner it's popular with all nationalities; not just us Scots !

Fado Rock has always been a fave with tourists and locals. They have a great menu, which I would say was suited to UK customers, and they also do unusual meats. You can grill your own food at your own table; it can be quite an experience. The waiters are always really charming and they have loads of locals that come back time and time again. I have had a few great nights in there ( em, including a few wild New Years... !)

O'Fado , the Portuguese Restaurant is another well loved place. They boast that they can do cod in 100 styles and I believe them ! The service is great here too. Ask them for special deals for parties and celebrations, and even weddings.

Dulce de Leche is always packed out for snacks to eat in or take away. Next to it there is a great place called TAPAS. Great real Spanish food like Potajes ( broth), tapas and meat dishes.

La Bodeguita is another old favourite. Good pasta and meat. In the Castillo Centre.

O'Connors is good for breakfasts, and the Wild West Restaurant does a nice duck dish. The Windmill Restaurant does great British style food and I am a fan of their breakfasts. It's like an old house and has a sun terrace for families out the back. Lovely ! Caffe Nero is near there and Cinzia and Franco have such good taste that I just love sitting on their terrace having a cold coffee. The world would be a beautiful place if Cinzia decorated everywhere !

Piero's is obviously great for entertainment.

There is a new place called the Office ,a Family Friendly Bar, which has sports tv and friendly staff.  It's next to the Havana Bar which does cocktails. ( Caleta Garden Complex ).

Durty Nelly's is a good Irish bar, down from the Flower of Scotland and Sean Og's has live music; in the Puerto del Sol complex. They have a nice terrace outside and live music.

Fado Indian Rock has tasty curries and , as you would expect from the Fado places dotted around Castillo; they take good care of their customers.

Mambo's does a mean steak and Legends is always popular for drinks, sports and live music.

The New Slow Boat ( upstairs opposite the Caleta Garden complex ) does fantastic Thai food ( as well as Chinese !)

There is a lovely new bar called Bar Buenagente at the LUna complex. Posh, but relaxing.

I know there is a plan for a chill out bar upstairs at the Happy centre. I'll keep you all informed ! There's also a bar up there called Slap and Tickle which I hear is fun.

I must take a walk up the top part of Castillo ; my favourite was always the Argentinian Restaurant. I wonder if it's still there.

Sorry, I haven't included the addresses or directions; but just ask and I'll tell you !

Me again ! I thought I would say that  I call the place El Castillo, but it's probably better known as Caleta de Fuste or Caleta. Some parts are also called Costa Caleta, so it can be a bit confusing. Anyway, the place is looking really nice, so well done to the local residents, the local buisness owners and the council. You can get buses here from Puerto del Rosario and the airport and they generally run about every half an hour.

"British like sausages, pies and tea"

Can you get proper Scottish meat pies? (I mean mutton!) I used to spend a lot of time in Scotland at one time and crossing the border was a big deal for me when I could get mutton pies at a local garage - I'm from Wigan (back me up Mick) we are the pie eating connoisseurs of the world! Smiley

Scottish Food

My mum and dad immigrated to Toronto, Canada from Glasgow in the 1960's.  We used to get up at 5.30 am on a Saturday morning to drive for over an hour to some part of Toronto, to stand in an enormous queue so that my parents could buy square sausages, potato scones, black pudding, fruit pudding and airshire bacon.  The best breakfast in the world Tongue

Yes ! They have got Scotch pies. Great for a hangover with Irn Bru. I have just been to Scotch Corner and we had square sausages, black pudding and Irn Bru. Great stuff!

They didn't have their world famous carrot cake, so I had a scone instead. Almost as good.

You sound soooo enthusiastic and am sure you had the best breakfast ever.
I will be sure to have the same the next time in Caleta de Fuste.

Yes, Scotch Corner is always great. I had a wee dance in Top Bar last night, up the stairs , next to the Flower of Scotland. They were having a good time! Aren't we lucky to live in such a nice place with great weather and friendly folk.

What do you think of El Capitans Ziggy, across from the Barcelo. I loved it there. So friendly to us tourists, but with locals propping up the bar? Lovely atmosphere I thought.
