Personally I think XL stink having flown back with them from Manchester this Monday. No leeway on the baggage, plus their scales read 2kg more than I had weighed the case at - funny that.... And as for the look on the face of the sneering b**** on check-in who seemed to take great pleasure  in telling me they were going to shaft me for 20 quid after I´d just watched her check in a family who were ALL over the limit and not charged.... Well, to say that she had comparable charm to the 'computer says no' character on Little Britain would be overstating her 'talents'. The flight was average (though I have to admit to being a little biased by this point), the plane was old, very old, and had Jet2 branding on the trolleys - my god, a JET2 hand me down... Smiley ...thoroughly unimpressed. Get your s*** together XL!

This is without mentioning that they sat me next to a complete and utter psycho bitch who sat there moaning to her downtrodden husband that people were talking, how dare they, now she would never get any sleep.... All interspersed with profanities. God, I wanted to punch this woman! Thankfully - not sure whether I can strictly speaking give XL credit Smiley - there was a free row in front of me, so seconds from the doors closing I made a dive for those and had 3 seats to myself all the way back. No doubt this move on my part prevented my arrest for assault somewhere over about Birmingham (I wouldn´t have lasted any longer)... So, I guess every cloud has a silver lining Smiley

Bart

waqtching the family all go through over the limit once happened to me at Newcastle and I was going to be charged, so I challenged the girl on check in to bring the families bags back and provide an explanation as to why I was going to be charged and not them!!!! Needless to say they grunted at me and checked my bags through. Ever since then I watch people checking in and their bags and if ever it happens again? they well know what to expect.

Airlines = rip off at the highest levels.

Flash: You know me so well. That´s me all over - the epitome of calm..... Wink

John: Normally I would argue the toss - but I'm not at my best at 4.30am after an hours sleep.... Smiley Next time perhaps.... Oh, no, there won´t be a next time as XL airlines will never see me again! Smiley

You got your wish then Bart!

Just think, if you hadn't argued with them over the £20 excess baggage charge all those people might still be having a nice holiday  Undecided

I´m very sad for the people who are both stranded, and out of pocket. Also the staff - except for the b**** on the counter at Manchester. Poetic justice in that particular case.... Smiley

I no the last post on this forum was sept 2008 but i thought i would just mention that airlines are now charging passengers to take luggagae, I have just had to pay £18 for a suitcase, We are flying with easy jet, they are the only ones who will allow you 35kg per suitcase, so we are only taking 1 suitcase between us. But hopefully the weather will be perfect so not many clothes will be needed.
Your luggage is now classed as an extra the same as meals etc. If you dont pay you can not put anything in the hold. WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

l flew with viking airways to lanza in july this yr found them really good , but what really p***ed me off was that on the return journey the whole of the front row both sides of the plane was empty .
the crew then announced that  as no one had pre- paid £30 for the xtra legroom in the first row  it was still available to us, and if anyone was interested it was at the bargain price of  ...... @ £30 a pop   Angry

needless to say no one took the offer up ....  Cool Cool

apart from that l found them quite good

having given my vote to Monarch they are still sneaky so & so's. On my last trip(via Gatwick) just took hand luggage and a very SMALL handbag each also a carrier bag with papers & water - went thru check in no problem (obviously minus the carrier bag which we purchased airside) but when we came to board we were told by the staff that we could only take 1 piece of luggage each so either we put the papers/water and very SMALL handbag all into 1 or else they would charge us - about £20 seems to ring a bell - surprisingly we managed (only just) to comply - coming back the lady at Arrecife had no problem with an extra bag with magazines and water - oh and the very SMALL handbag just goes to show that it all depends whose on the gate - and what sort of day they are having !!!!!!

I flew back with Monarch yesterday. What I thought was sneaky, was that when they send your tickets through by email... it prompts you to check-in online, and then wants to charge you for it. Nearly fell for it!

But they did give me a free upgrade yesterday, plus they actually had something to watch on the tellies (although I forgot to pack my headphones).

yeah - I nearly fell for the check in early online - what i did find was that I always manage to get reasonable seats sometimes even an upgrade too - if just 2 of us going I always ask for aisle seats opposite each other - last couple of times I've done that I've got the upgrades x
