As it was my first experience of Lanza, I've always had a soft spot for PDC, although we generally stay in Tias and travel to and fro, the peace and tranquility of Tias is wonderful. First took a day trip to Playa Blanca circa 1985, thought it was a lovely place. We returned to playa blanca last year for another day trip, planning to spend the day on the beach, what a change !! We couldn't see the beach, it was jam packed !! Didnt stay too long, but the difference was staggering form our first visit. Apart from the Biosfera, PDC hasn't changed hugely since our first visit all those years ago.

I always used to stay in Costa Teguise when I came to Lanzarote on holiday, my plan was to live in Puerto Calero when I moved, but that ended up being unworkable for a number of reasons, ended up in PDC on a temporary basis, but am actually thinking of staying where I am for the next few years.
When I came to the island on holiday I used to hate PDC, I always thought it was just a tacky horrible place, but I am really enjoying living there, the night life (and the daylife!) is great, public transport is pretty good and the kids love it when they come to visit. I will probably move to somewhere quieter eventually, but I am not in as much of a hurry to do so now as I used to be.

Good morning, I would like to nominate Matagorda for the following reasons : Nice and quiet but still close to PDC if you want more choice. I know a lot of you on this forum live in PB but I find it too far out and remote ( long way from Airport & Areciffe ) and it has become quite an urban sprawl. Best place to live I would choose Yaiza,at the foot of the National Park, very pretty with good bars and restaurants, closer to the main resort and airport etc.

I agree that Yaiza is picture postcard pretty However my favourite resort still is Matagorda closely followed by Puerto Calero. Earlier this year we took the plunge and stayed in Playa Blanca for a change and I have to say although we had a nice holiday, I would not go back and stay there again. I was a bit disappointed to be honest, I thought that the main centre promenade was way tackier than I expected. Also I think that the building of villas has spread out far too much, the west end of Playa Blanca seems to have miles of empty villas with hardly any facilities within walking distance, it is very eerie! (lovely houses this is a terrible shame). There is so much going for the resort-nice beaches, lovely marina but definitely for me something missing!

I'm sorry you didn't like PB stargirl.
I do think that some people have unrealistic expectations when they hear the hype about it being the most upmarket place on the island. The fact is it is part of Lanzarote and it wouldn't be right if it was a manicured resort with only designer shops so a bit of tackiness on the front keeps it grounded and of course lots of visitors love the shops full of tourist tat. Those stupid furry things rushing round in a cardboard box always bring a smile to my face.
The urban sprawl is literally the biggest blot on the landscape but eventually the houses will all be sold, occupied or pulled down. As you say there are some beautiful villas.
Each to his own but the head on view of Fuerteventura from the town beach (as opposed to the more distant sideways view from PDC) is for me the most beautiful view in the world and with kilometre after kilometre of pedestrian walkway all along the south coast of the island (except for Papagayo) it's a fabulous place to be.
The beaches are also fabulous - choices for everyone from the restaurant lined town beach to family friendly Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo and the wilder Papagayo coastline not to mention lots of small beaches and coves out towards the lighthouse.

I agree Josie, the views from PB are stunning, great sunsets! I first visited Papagayo way back in the 90's (and nearly wrecked a hired jeep with the bumps in the process lol), I remember they were road building and it is interesting to see the difference in 20 years!! There is no doubt that some lovely hotels and villas have been built, just the sprawl to the west is a bit of a ghost town. I loved the marina, it's a pity it is so quiet though, I felt it lacked atmosphere. I was not expecting designer shops, the souvenir shops are typical seaside, perhaps I hoped for more of a canarian feel. Anyway after 20 years I, along with my extended family all continue to visit Lanzarote and enjoy it

I'm obviously biased towards PB as I live here... but I too really like Matagorda. It has a chilled out vibe, and you stand more chance of keeping your own little patch of beach.
Last night the Old Town in Carmen was buzzing - it was really good to see... although I think they seriously need to do something drastic to La Hoya!!!
Conversely, when I was coming through central PB at around half nine last night... it was very quiet. Unusual for it to be that way round.

We stay in matagorda but in the daytime head to del carmen then in the evenings we like to have a few drinks in matagorda where its quite and very relaxing. We do have a couple of day trips while we are in lanza to costa teguise which is a nice place to chill.

Los cristianos (tenerife) was always our favourite but once we had been to PDC that changed. We like the area around the La Penita apts quiet but just a stone throw from the biz. Been to teguise and didnt really enjoy it. PDC for us

Playa Blanca - and it's not even close ! Well,... at least the Playa Blanca I (!) know. It's been a long time. 11 years, to be exact. Can't wait to see what I looks like nowadays and how everything has changed (mostly for the better, hopefully...) Even though I've seen reams and reams of new pics, it's rather difficult to get an idea of it from afar...

Teeamo it will look very different to you now. Ignore the half built areas on the outskirts of town... and stick to the centre and the new Marina - you'll be happy enough then x

Thanks for the heads-up ! =) Can't wait to set foot in the Marina Rubicon. I love the fact that it's a little more upmarket without looking out of place or being too pretentious and "fancy schmancy" ( which would be disrespectful towards the island's history and the comparatively less well-off locals, in my opinion...) I think they've found a reasonable balance, as far as I can judge from afar...
I'm so exciiiiited and I just can't hiiiiide it... *sings*
