Ok... I'll big up another Island!

I first visited the Canary Islands in the very early nineties. I stayed in Caleta de Fuste in Fuerteventura.

At the time I thought the cost of the holiday was really pricy £300 for one week over New Year's... BUT!!!!

Our accomodation was simple, but very clean. It was around one side of the main cove. The beach was lovely and it was my first experience of having fish milling about round my ankles. It was also very german at the time. I remember shouting at some kids who were misbehaving whilst their parents got drunk.

We found a gorgeous little fish restaurant in the harbour (sorry... too many years ago to remember the name, but it was next to a gift shop - and the only one for a good distance.)

There was a cracking little supermarket where we stocked up on Bimbo bread (which made me laugh) and tinned salmon (for the kittens that kept turning up around our apartment - I wonder why, eh? I did have photos but bined lots of pics recently when we moved into our new house.

There was myself, my best pal at the time Debbie, her boyfriend Marc, and our other friend Caz.

We frequented a German karaoke bar - and I gave the compere lots of abuse because he didn't do a decent rendition of "Hazard" by Richard Marx... and he only had a tiny keyboard - bless! I was very impressed by the size of the large beer jugs - but chose to stick to vodka (I hadn't discovered the joys of vino at that point). I also had harsh words with a chappie who wanted to buy me a drink... to which I refused... and he got a bit nasty about it. He was soon removed from the premises! Cheesy

New Year's Eve was excellent. We spent it in that same German Bar - and a good time was had by all. it ended up with us all doing the conga into the sea! Fantastic!

There was also a pool bar close to our apartment... which was run by a lady called "Sue" - and her boyfriend was over at the time. Once we'd discovered the place, we spent every day there! I remember telling Sue how jealous I was that she'd made the move - he he he he - and here I now am!!! I'd love to know what she's doing now... but as I said I binned loads of photos recently, so I have no chance of tracking her down. Anyway Sue - if you recognise yourself from the vague description - and you had masses of fabulous russet brown hair and ran a pool bar in caleta back in the early 90's, then do get in touch!

I've been back to Fuerteventura twice since - but always on business.  I love the seafront at Corralejo, the beach in the centre where they sell the scary ladybird thingies... the dunes are stunning... I loved the Italian place in Puerto del Rosario (Julio Cesar) that I went to for a lunch with Ziggy... I'll definitely be back!

There's lots more yet to discover in Fuerte - and I for one look forward to finding out more!

Flooey xx
But I still love Lanzarote - because that's my home!

I'll have to let you know once I've been to Lanzarote.
Been to Tenerife twice (but that was quite a few years ago now and we would have been there again this coming January had I allowed my husband to get his way..........luckily it's my birthday so I got to choose  Grin).
Went to Fuerte last January for a week.........quite liked it there and may return again one day.

To be honest we mainly go to the Greek Islands for our European holidays (apart from last 5 years when we've gone to Vegas  Smiley).......

I've been to a couple of the Greek Islands too, Lexie - and loved it there! Rhodes was my favourite to chill out on... and Zante was my favourite for a girls' holiday. Wasn't so keen on Corfu - but that was more to do with where we were staying than the island itself.

Zante is our favourite Greek Island but there are a lot of complaints about it these days which is a shame. We've had a couple of good holidays there  Grin
