Hi. It was great as it's still not very touristy. There are only a few partly unfinished hotels, an also unfinished shopping centre [therefore is was sometimes a little noisy], a Hiperdino and the usual shops like Lacoste etc. Everything else seems to be like it always had been.
Could change, of course, when everything's finished, what is on the one hand a pity, on the other maybe a source of income for the habitants... dunno.
Well, what else? Especially the area around the port is quite picturesque. There are lots of small and smallest restaurants and some bars and pubs and two discos (where we haven't been), but all in all everything is quite little and sweet and original. We spend some evenings on the village sqare amongst the discussing locals which was very nice.  Cheesy
That's it, I think.
[Just heard on the radio that there are forest fires also on GC now, oh sh.t  Embarrassed ]
[edit: "And in Spain's Canary Islands, campers and residents had to be evacuated overnight while fireman fought two blazes laying waste to several hundred hectares.
In Tejeda, a mountainous and wooded area in the centre of Gran  Canaria, 180 firemen backed up by five water-carrying helicopters battled a fire which had already destroyed more than 800 hectares, a  spokesman for the government environmental agency told AFP, adding that it was possible arsonists were to blame.
On the small island of La Gomera, 60 people were also evacuated in the hamlet of Chipude as firefighters tackled a blaze which destroyed at least 150 hectares and threatened the pristine Garajonay National Park." Source: Aljazeera.net, just by accident of course!
At least no-one got hurt. Nevertheless it's a immense loss. Although I hope no-one of you boardies is currently there, if someone will be there soon (on GC I mean), I would be quite interested in how the situation is. Thx.]

Lanza looks like it's No 1 and I have to agree, I do love Fuerteventura as well but the two best resorts there in my opinion are Corralejo and Jandia and the distence between them it too far to pop backwards and forward where as Lanzarote is nice and compact, lots to see and do  and everything within easy driving distance.. I must say when I move out for good my ideal is to live on Lanzarote and pop on the ferry to Corralejo when the fancy takes me.. the best of both worlds.  Smiley

Didn't like GC at all & will never go back

Once you get away from the main resorts and the madding crowds Tenerife has a lot to offer - spectacular National Parks and more greenery than Lanza : so to live maybe TNF but for holiday Playa Blanca tick all my boxes

I agree, something not right about GC for me, the beach was filthy, nappies and other unmentionables floating about and I did not like the idea of all the bars and restaurants under one roof in the commercial centre of Puerto Rico.. have tried Tenerife and Fuerteventura several times but Lanzarote always wins with Fuerteventura coming in a close second.

Lanza is the best, not that I have been to any other islands, but you cant beat the friendliness or the partying in PDC!!!

It's usually people that haven't actually visited the Island Suzzy. And I seem to remember it being said on telly (or a movie?) once. Perhaps our resident Googler Keith can come up with the goods on that one?

I can't seem to find the origins of the term but what I did come across was this nasty little piece.

Ode to Lanzarote (Lanzagrotty)

The Canary Islands Lanzagrotty (Lanzarote) Song (to the tune of "castle on a cloud" "les miserables")

There is a place called Lanzagrotty
people like to go there to escape
cos there is nothing else to do
except get drunk and have a spew

There is a place called Lanzagrotty
Its in the middle of no-where
Action passes right by here
people in this bubble have no idea

There is a place called Lanzagrotty

Why you would live here is not quite clear

unless you like fake sh*t, drugs and sex

and you like sleeping like Yogi Bear

Hip hip HOORAY! Hip hip HOORAY. For Lanzarote is sh*tty little island, for lanzarotes a sh*tty little island for lanzarotes a sh*tty little isllllllllllaaaaaaaaand,
AND SO SAY ALL OF US! HUP!

This beautiful Poem was inspired by the Ode to Palmy song...................

Only been to Lanza and Tenerife, Love Lanza to bits, 6th visit in Sept !
Hated Tenerife, went to Las Americas when I was 19, really didn't enjoy it,
I'm very well travelled in places of that ilk, dancing/drinkl type hols and I would not return to Tenerife, or Kavos in Corfu for that matter.

Ah Danny - I did Kavos too. 18-30 holiday. Worst holiday ever!  Normally I've loved the Greek Islands though.

Been to all them , and Lanza wins by a country mile , the whole atmosphere and laidback attitude is a lot better than say Puerto Rico which as someone said 2 MAIN centres and a few small ones where everything is , Fuerte i found tto quiet for me and Tenerife i lived there for a few months and would not liketo go back ,

so Lanza for us and hopefully out for good sooner rather than later
