Hello, after much advice from people here in the Lanzarote section (thanks Flooey), I booked this years holiday for Playa Blanca.

I am now considering a 1 week break for January next year (like to plan ahead).  I have looked online at some places that seem reasonable, but I am not sure how close they are to night spots, eg bars and restaurants, not botherd about clubs.  Could anyone tell me where any CCs are that are good.

I have seen a good looking deal with Thomas Cook for the Oasis Village.  I have found this on Google Earth but have no idea how far from any night life this is.

Any help appreciated
Thanks

Madstock is probably your best bet...  and Mit. Keith went quite recently... and Mit lives there - so between them I'm sure they'll be able to help.

And I'll wave across the water to you when you're there!

Thanks Elle.

I take it Madstock is a CC or a bar?

Can you tell me roughly where it is so I can find it on Google Earth?

Also, do you know how much a ferry is between Playa Blanca and Corralejo is  for a day trip?

Thanks

LMAO Dave! Sorry honey - I should have explained. Madstock is a member on this forum. His name is Keith. he'll be in to give you some tips soon, I'm sure. You can find him in the Birmingham area on Google Earth LOL - but I don't think he's big enough to be seen from space Grin

The ferry links are below so that you can work it out as a foot passenger, or with a car (which you wouldn't need for around PB as you know). Hopefully the links will work for you hon.

Ah yes - getting my months confused. LOL - I forget sometimes that people don't always know what's in my head - I just assume they understand.

Elle do you know of any of the CCs in Coralejo? or where the 'main' area is?

Also how busy/quiet is Corralejo in January?

Most places are fairly quiet right now - but maybe the market will pick up a bit by next January.  I'm not a Corralejo expert. I've been in a couple of places down by the beach - and you really can't go wrong there. But I've also heard really good things about The Winning Post too - so it's on our list of places to visit next time we're over there.

Dave the oasis Village is about 500m from the high street. If you want any more info please shout. As I live in Corralejo.

It is also about 100m from the El Campanario shopping / CC with a few bars and restaurants.

If you come Jan 2010 try and make it so you are here for the night of the 5th Jan as that is Kings Night celebrations!  Smiley Smiley

We are hoping that the new CC Las Palmeras will be open by then to. But knowing manaña who knows!  Cry Cry

Howdo mit1964

thanks for your response.  I am looking at the Oasis Village because it looks like I can get a good deal for 1 week in January (probably 23rd).  I found it on Google Earth and can see that it is in the south of the resort near a waterpark, but it did look like it's close to a main road?  Basically through Thomas Cook I can get 1 week All inclusive for about £350 (x2 = £700) there which is good for a winter break imho.  Though would probably eat out 3 - 4 nights.

500m to a decent CC is good.  We would like to be near lively areas with bars and restaurants but not too over the top.  How busy is it in January?

Also what's the weather like in January?

Thanks for your help

Firstly the weather...

The weather (IMHO) in January can be a bit hit and miss. The temperature can be in the 20's and definitely short weather during the day, at night it can go as cold as 15ºC. I would not say that you will get 7 days sunbathing weather but that is the same for all the Canary Islands!

Normall the weather in November and December is better than January and February. So if you want to guarantee 7 days of Sun I would consider another month. An example..... some guests stayed in a Villa we look after from the 23rd Dec 2008 to the 6th Jan 2009 had one days rain during the day (a few showers at night!) went back like they had spent a week in the Caribbean in the height of summer and complained the weather wasn't up to much!! Due to the lack of high mountains (807m is the highest in the south of the Island) we have the most arrid climate of all the Canary Islands! (Hence the lack of trees!!)

So as they say you pays your money you take your chance!

How busy is it in January?

Well in reality January is the quietest month! But that is the reason that those that come in January do! There is also something else to consider, "what is your definition of quiet"? there are still people about there are still clubs open it is nothing like a ghost town!

I went to Kos town in Kos (Greek Islands) in Jun/July 2004 and THAT WAS quiet in fact that was dead! and it is nothing like that!

There are places that are normally quite busy but now that the UK is officially in recession what effect will that have on tourist in 12 months time? Who Knows!

The Oasis Village is in a good spot and I am glad that you are willing to eat out 3-4 nights as I have heard that some of the English are not happy with the food due to it catering for the mainly European market. It has only just started to push UK clients in as it was predominately a German market before. (Only Hearsay So can not confirm or deny!)

It is close to a main road but lets be serious the amount of traffic we have on this island its not like the amount you get on a C road in the UK!!

Hope this helps?

Ok after a period of inactivity by me I have finally booked my winter 2010 holiday.

We have booked 10 nights at the Oasis Village from 27th January.  Need to get some warmth in the winter, lol!

PS if Elle/Flooey reads this, The Crown in Fareham is reopening this Friday as  Lloyds (Wetherspoons) bar!

Woohoo - great news on booking your hols Dave (and good to see you in here again).

A Wetherspoons eh? My school year is having a reunion on the end of this month in Wetherspoons in Fareham - not sure if it's that one or not. I can't make it unfortunately - but I'm very jealous... and they've promised me lots of photos. So I'd probably avoid the 28th March if you're in town - the place will have about 40 strange people all saying "My god haven't you changed" etc etc. LOL

Time to rejuvenate this thread!

Does anyone know what chain of hotel the Oasis Village is or if they have a website?  It's just that I like to request a room on a higher floor if possible.  AFAIK the Oasis villge is only on 2 floors anyway!

Thanks

How much is Guajiro Honey Rum? We paid 9.17 Euros for a litre bottle in Playa Blanca.
