We are on the scrounge again and need your help    Roll Eyes

A few years ago we built 4 large outside patios to give the dogs somewhere to have a little run around and get out of their kennels for an hour or two each week. These have been fabulous for the dogs but there are a couple of problems with them that really need sorting out.

Firstly, the dividing walls are not high enough and they have virtually destroyed the attached fencing. We have patched up the fencing with wood, metal etc, anything we had to hand. We want to remove this "mess" and raise the walls so they can't destroy them again.

Secondly, after raising the walls, we have a support for much needed roofs. There is no shade for them in the summer and they fight for every little bit of shadow to keep them cool.

Day to day running costs at the shelter are difficult to find so spending large amounts of money on this project is out of the question. In saying that, we still have to maintain the shelter, especially outside walls, otherwise we would have "escapees".

This is where you might be able to help.

Has anyone got any building materials left over from jobs. We need blocks, sand, cement, re-enforcing rods etc. Even if you have only got 10 or 12 blocks they will be of use to us.
We are not sure how we are going to do the roofs but anything you think we might be able to use i.e. corrugated sheets, roof panels, scaffolding poles etc. please let me know. Finally we will need exterior paint, ideally green and white but colour is irrelevant as it can always be used as undercoat.

If we can accumulate small amounts from lots of people it will keep our material costs down.

Initially we had planned on getting quotes from builders for all this work but I was hoping that we could cut down on labour costs by having a "work party". Maybe some volunteers could do part of this, or be labourers for a one man builder. It is quite a big job but not difficult.

We have had an offer of a weeks work from someone in Playa Blanca who is (young) retired and has time on his hands and I am sure there are some people out there who are "in between jobs" that could give us a day or two. We could work at the week end - time is not a problem - so if anyone has a free Saturday afternoon, Sunday or even week day, please get in touch.

We could get the ladies involved as well. Brushing up, fetching and carrying etc. We could even fire up the BBQ, get in a few beers and make a party out of it one Sunday  Grin
I need to collect names etc to find out if this is going to be possible, and when, so please call me on
646 838 749
and leave your details and availability

Many Thanks

Lynne

Lynne

I wish I could be there in Lanzarote to help.  I'd love to be involved in something that would assist Sara in the great work you do caring for the animals. I'll PM you to see if I can do something to help you out.

I hope you get lots of support for your appeal, and it's true that so many of us would have half cans of paint lying about that we would be complaining about taking up space, when someone like yourself could make good use of it!

Pity you're not here in Ireland, cos we've got lots of stuff we could do with getting rid of!

Anyhow, will chat soon and good luck with your appeal.

LOL Bernie!

Next time you're over hon... I'll take a trip up to SARA with you - and you can meet Lynne and scrub out a few kennels! Grin

Lynne - I'll pop this onto the relocation site tomorrow for you too.

Ok ok... We'll go up there and have a look around (I don't drive, so you'll have to). We can take some of the doggies for walks perhaps? If Lynne says it's okay?

Wine I can do... BBQ, we'll have to make sure Alan buys one first LOL.

If you go to www.saralanzarote.com you can sign up as a member... and I think it's €5 per month. SARA are always looking for new members. Every little helps eh.

We'll definitely have to have a trip up there, and walkies sounds good to me!  (Only kidding about the wine & BBQ though!)

Will chat to you about it before I get down to Lanzarote in April and I'll set aside some time to go visit.

Cheers!

update:

We now have been given a VERY good price for the building blocks from Indelasa. We have quite a few offers of help from various builders, handymen and just will ing workers.

Looks like it won't be long until we can start work.

Any more offers of help would be gratefully received. I was thinking of spreading the work over 4 sundays probably late April or early May. Bit of building, a few beers, bacon butties and a bit of a sing a long ....... make a party out of it.

Should be fun and worthwhile!
