Sorry if this has been done before , but what uk food do you miss if you have taken the plunge and moved to Lanzarote or what would you miss if like us seriously thinking about it in the hopefully not so distant future

myself , i would miss North Staffordshire oatcakes www.nsoatcakes.co.uk , marmite and stuffing all i know that can be bought well not the first one but are expensive and when we finally get round to making the plunge visitors would have a lot of the aforementioned in their luggage

It's silly things that I have missed... but to be honest I love the local produce anyway. And you can get most things here now - it's just that "British" foodstuffs cost more obviously, as you have said.

I miss:
Banana Nesquik
Butterscotch Angel Delight (although I got an email from our friends at www.maceyslanzarote.com and they've got it in stock now - hurrah!)
I miss how easy it was to get Greek and Turkish foods in Portsmouth - no hope here!
"Real" fish and chips from an English Chip Shop. I don't think that almost a tenner for that place in Carmen is good value for on a regular basis - but great for a special treat.
Malt loaf
Ginger cake
Irish boiling bacon (thanks to Irish Mick though - my cravings were satisfied recently)

You'll see all my things are stuff that you wouldn't have every day anyway.

I'll let Bart do his own list - but I think we all know what the first item would be!

Another thing is why can you get Marmite Walkers crisps on Lanzarote and not here ,i saw them last time and said to my friend if she came over bring some , she suggested asking a mutual friend in Knutsford who runs a pub to go to the wholesaler here , well , they have stopped making them for the UK market  Cry Cry Cry Cry god knows why

and buttercotch angel delight havent had that for years but must admit i preferred the instant whip version

fish and chips , in Knutsford the only chippy charges over £8 for fish and chips so not too far away from Carmen but a few miles down the road its that for 2 portions ,

Marmite do their own crisps now Sam and when I read your post I remembered I still had some. (well I did Wink )
I got mine from Morrisons but I also saw them in Tesco last week. I've only seen them in multi packs but if you love them like me then that's ideal.

Waiting to go back to Lanzarote.......

I would miss the restaurants in Leeds.  I realise that there is much more "out there" in Lanza than I realise, as I know I don't see as much as a tourist, but I think the diversity of restaurants in the big cities of Britain are superb (ok, of varying quality).

I would miss my local Butcher, as he's superb.  I would miss his wonderful lamb chops, sirloin steak and roast beef joints.  OK, I realise that once I am out there, I would find a good butcher, but I don't think you can match british lamb.  I know you can get imports, I suppose.

I would also miss british cheese, such as chedder, wensleydale etc.  Again, I am willing to be corrected in that if you live in Lanzarote, you can find shops which sell them.

I would certainly miss easily-available GOOD, relatively expensive french wine.  The UK imports A LOT, and it's easily available, especially if you buy it from a warehouse.  I don't know how much, or the quality of french wine imports.  Would also miss Italian wine.

British bacon (again can probably find it imported), because I buy all mine from our local butcher who cures it himself.  Plus his sausages.

I would also miss proper fish and chips.  I saw a chippy in Lanzarote, but didn't try it.
