Very very happy to help honey! It's called "Tochuelo"... and is available in Spar.
Now I'm going to sound really cheap now.... but trust me on this one. Hiperdino and Spar havce a brand called "Supersol". They have cartons of white, red, and rosé. The red is dire... but the white and rosé are more than drinkable (and less than a euro for a litre).
Before the snobs come wading in - we have tried it on quite a few friedns (including a bit of a connoisseur that was over very recently). We let them have a glass or two, and then ask them what they think. We have yet to discover someone who doesn't like it.
We bought it for cooking with originally... but when we tasted it, we liked it! It needs to be cold though.
If it helps... drop me a PM with your email address nearer the time... and I'll take a photo and send it to you.
But Tochuelo is lovely if you can't face trying those cartons. Not as good as Pinot (IMO) but pretty damn close!
Oh yeah... and there's also "Liria". The orange label is semi sweet. The green label is dry (my fave), and they also do rose and red... but I'm not so keen on those.
Elle xx
PS: Bart has just brought me a glass of said "white", peered over my shoulder and said he'd answered this LOL. But I'll press "send" anyway!

Mrs M has just said that the 'Liria' is like drinking your own urine. Ange recommended 'valentino' I think and that went down well with the women. Flooey, did I get the name right?

We're not too keen on Liria, Toch is superb for less than 2 euro a bottle, but Bart knows when we're coming so he shoots down to Spar and buys it all up before we get there !!

Ange recommended 'valentino' ?
It's probably "San Valentin" made by the Torres group, Keith. It's nice if you like a medium wine, but not so good if you like dry. The Tochuelo gets my vote too, by the way!

I think you mean "San Valentin" Keith. Yes, much better than the "Vina Sol" option.
As for drinking your own urine - do say to Mrs M that i am concerned as to how she would know! But do give her my love too xxx
Sorry Bernie love... we posted at the same time.

Cheers Elle! I see the "matter of the grape" has got us both knocking sparks off the keyboard! Have to say though, that I would always choose Vina Sol over the San Valentin, because I tend not to like wines that are sweet. The Tochuelo is better value that either in any case. By the way Elle, we tried that Supersol white wine before we left in at the beginning of May, and I would agree with you that it's very palatable! They could do with buying some of it up at La Campana to use as their house white wine! The one they served us last time we were there for a bite to eat would strip paint off the walls! Wicked bloody stuff!

Yes I think that was it Bernie....but is it sweet as that's Mrs M's tipple. Flooey you know what us Brummies are like, if it's cheap and you can make it yourself then DRINK IT!!!

Vina Esmeralda is nice as it is a bit sweeter and more "flowery" if you know what I mean though not necessarily really cheap probably €4 or 5 in the supermarket.

Have seen that Esmerelda one Josie, but didn't try it. Sounds exactly like what Mrs M would go for though, so good recommendation.
Likewise Keith, I think that San Valentin would be good for your missus. Wines with "Semidulce" on the bottle are the ones you should look out for. (Obviously "dulce" means "sweet").
We stopped off at that Bodega place on the back road up the market (over La Geria) and they had a semidulce wine that Susan tried and she was very impressed. She's more into sweet wines than me, but for the life of me I can't remember the name on the bottle! Maybe someone will remember. The Bodega has some kind of a dragon/lizard logo on it from what I remember???
Another wine we've started buying in Lanzarote is Marques de Caceres or something like that! It's not sweet though Keith, so not one I'd be recommending to you, but anyone who like a little crispness to their wines, I think you might enjoy.
