We have booked Lanzarote for 12th - 21st August, staying at Playamar (hope they are okay) I wonder should a warning be sent out to all bar owners to ensure they dont run out of alcohol during our time there(doubt it lol)

So as I dont get too frustrated, I will now try to forget that I have the hol booked, and will remind myself in times I need something happy to think about.  Wink Although it is hard not to picture myself on the beach basking (not whale like I hope) in the sun

As one of our many Irish visitors Sue - do you find Lanzarote expensive for food and drink? I know the Brits struggle with the exchange - but what about you as you're already spending euros anyway? Or is it still comparable to eating and drinking out and about in Ireland?

lol Flash, I agree with you.

In general the island is cheaper than Ireland although with the economic recession now things are getting cheaper in Ireland. Obviously if you drink local beer and wine its alot cheaper but if (like hubby) you just HAVE to go to the irish bars and drink imported its not much cheaper and in some cases are dearer than home. This holiday he will have to make do though wiht the local stuff which isnt bad anyway huh lol. Dining out is good value, some places really really good value so that is good. Obviously smokes and alcohol bought in supermarkets DEAD cheap for us.

I will do a more in depth research and pay more attention this year and let you know lol

That reminds me I found a Hiperdino receipt in my bag when I got back last time and compared some prices with Waitrose - most food items are way cheaper than the UK and Supersol dulce de leche icecream (my new favorite) is about half the price of Haagen Daz!

Well done, Sue!  You'll be there before I even get back!   I've still got nearly 12 weeks to go!  It's a 16 week break between visits for me this time, the longest yet.  (Yeah, I know - you REALLY feel feckin' sorry for me, don't you!  Ha Ha Ha!)

Anyhow, glad you're getting the break.  Great that you have the forum to keep reminding you to look forward to it!   Grin
