Does any one know how much a spanish sim costs? What stores can you top up in? and what the tarrifs / prices are?

Thanks

You can get a sim for about €15... and they usually come with a chunk of credit too. You will need to provide proof of ID (passport or NIE number) and they will register you.

You can get topups obviously in whatever store you buy it... plus in many of the supermarkets, and some of the electronics shops too.

As for the tariffs... it really does differ from supplier to supplier... but generally 15 centimos a text. I don't remember the charge per minute for calls I'm afraid... but someone else may be able to help.

You can get a choice of suppliers here, such as Orange, Vodafone, Movistar... and maybe more.

Will the sims work in a mobile brought over from the UK?Do you DEF need a NIE number to get a job? even if it is bar work? If so, where do you get that from and how much is it?

"" You will need to make sure your UK mobile is unlocked. Best way to try is by popping in a SIM from a different provider, and checking your phone will accept it. We got ours unlocked at the market in UK for about a tenner each.
Yes, you will definitely need a NIE number to get a job here... in fact you'll need it for all sorts of stuff.
It's reltively cheap to do it yourself... but can be nerveracking unless you're Spanish is excellent. There are people that will give you work wihout a NIE number, but they are few and far between... and that's working illegally anyway - if you get caught, both you and the bar owner can get hefty fines. There are many people who will get your NIE for you (at a price of course). You're looking at Costa Teguise aren't you? Then speak to Ben Simkins. He¡'s a client of ours... and a really nice guy! It's worth paying him to sort it out... if only for the peace of mind. I think it will be around €50 and he'll need you to go to the Police Station in Arrecife with a shedload of paperwork.
Don't worry... it's not as daunting as it sounds. His website is www.asesoriaonline.com He is English, but has lived here for donkey's years. Tell him I said hi - I've hardly spoken to him this past week or so. ""

Texts were costing me an arm and a leg at new year from one Movistar PAYG simcard to another - generally 50 cents a go so best to check the tariffs.

You can get just a NIE number without the residencia. By law you don't need the residencia... but there are benefits to it such as cheaper travel, and discounts on the Island - so worth doing in my opinion.

They keep changing the system here (pain in the bum). They were doing it all toegther though up until a couple of weeks ago... so yeah you should be able to get them together, although it might take a couple of trips. Talk to Ben, whose details I gave you... and she should be able to advise.

Residencia form for download - http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk/application-forms-for-download/
Applying for your residencia - http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk/applying-for-your-residencia/
Do you have to apply - http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk/do-i-have-to-apply-for-my-residencia/
Discounts available if you have residencia (list is only tip of the iceberg) - http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk/resident-discounts-in-lanzarote/

NIE application form - http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk/nie-application-form-download/
Guide to filling most of it in - http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk/nie-application-form-how-to-fill-it-in/

I don't know the exact prices now, I'm afraid... but it's less than a tenner for NIE - and I think about 15 for Residencia. If doing together, then I guess Residencia would include NIE in the price.  I'm afraid I do not know how much exactly someone would charge to go with you... but I think it's around €50 - small price to pay for peace of mind I think... at least until you can speak a little Spanish. Best speak to Ben - he'll know.

Good luck!

Do you have a private email for Ben Simkins? Because the link to that above website is not working, unless it is, but it doesnt say nothing on there about NIE!!!!

No - it doesn't say anything about NIE... because that's just an intro to his services. You need to contact him direct. His email is simkins@asesoriaeuropa.com and I think his telephone number might be on that page too.

i've been readin up on the NIE, but could someone please clarify some questions for me....do you have to take your forms to the police station then return on another day to pick up the number? how long do you have to wait for the number? Does the NIE and Residencia get completed at the same time now? Where is the nearest police station to Costa teguise?
Is the tax in spain connected to the UK?
Thanks

Yes, it involves more than one trip again now (changed in the last couple of weeks). Waiting on the day isn't that long... the queues go down pretty quick - but do try to get there first thing in the morning.. As for how many days in between applying, and then getting your number... I'm not sure, but they'll tell you there and then anyway.

There is a Police Station on Avenida de Las Islas Canarias in Costa Teguise - but they won't do your paperwork for you. You must go to Arrecife for that.

Yes you can do your NIE and Residencia at the same time.  Get your Empadron first though - because you will need to take it with you. It's a piece of paper you get from the Town Hall here. Take your passport and rental contract for that... and they should do it there and then. It's very cheap. You can get by with very little Spanish when getting that one.

No, the tax in Spain is completely separate to the UK. That is unless you are being paid by a UK company into your Spanish bank account... in which case they will have taxed you at source.

hope that helps.
