Just stumbled across reference to a film due out late summer shot partly in Lanzarote last year starring Penelope Cruz called Broken Embraces, could well be old news but don't remember reading about it before. It doesn't look like my thing but good news if she can increase tourist numebrs even fractionally like it is claimed she did for Kefalonia in Captain Corellis Mandolin. The film appears to be less mainstream than Corelli and only partly based in Lanzarote but still will probably be more effective than the Spanish tourism authorities efforts. Link below to trailer. http://www.screenrush.co.uk/video/player_gen_cmedia=18892479&cfilm=133268.html

Hi Stuart - Yes... it is known in Spanish as "Los Abrazos Rotos" I think. It was publicised quite heavily here at the time... and some of the locals were able to get involved in crowd scenes etc.
Haven't seen it yet - but looking forward to it. It was inspired by a photo that the director saw... of a couple embracing in El Golfo.
Yes, we're hoping it will help raise tourist figures too!

There was some chatter when they were over filming. For my money that picture is taken on Papagayo beach, there's also a good shot of Famara on the trailer, all good stuff. The film looks sh*te though

Lower flight prices would always help but are they really much more than recent years and the root of the problem. I have just paid about £280 all in for last two weeks of August and £140 for November. My friend is having to follow on a few days later in August and got one way from Manchester on Thurs 20th Aug for £50 inc taxes, all be it the fare is £150 to get back home. It doesn't strike me that prices are much different to recent years but what is different is peoples finances and weak exchange rate which was compounded by most travel articles published early in the year, when it was near parity, advising people to travel outside of the eurozone.

we cant find prices like that and thats looking everyday , it may be that we are (well the mrs is) stuck by prebooked days off work , we could i suppose go from other airports but the fact we are 10 mins drive from Manchester , my parents take us so no cab fare there and back(unless they selfishly book a holiday the same day to the same place like Jan , but didnt want to spend 2 hrs extra in the airport and stayed a week later) the fares from Manchester are horrendous to Lanza and for all the canaries bar tenerife
we got a two week s/c in PDC for us both in 2007 for £500 and 1 weeks AI in pdc for £500 as well both with flights included , now the flight is more than that alone

We almost always fly from Manchester, occasionally Leeds. It seems to me that package holidays more so than flights have gone up presumably as a result of the operators anticipating slow demand and not making as many holidays available and hence not having the surplus to sell cheap. A couple of years ago I knew someone who booked a bargain basement package, took advantage of the airport transfer to resort and then ditched the accomodation in favour of staying somewhere else.
We considered going somewhere else for a change this summer and in the belief that 2 adults and 1 child could get a week in the balearics for similar money to just flights to Lanza. The price of packages though surprised me and in the end it was madness to consider given we have a place to stay in Lanza. For us as well the decision to go for a fortnight then became obvious and we are actually staying a little over, we have been doing 7-10 days 3 or 4 times a year but it clearly saves money on flights to go for fewer trips but stay longer if you can.

we have looked elsewhere but the lure of Lanza is pulling us in , also we get to see our friends who live there , one being Julies best mate and phonecalls to mobiles(why dont they have landlines ) are a fortune seen various sites with the accom cheap but its the flights , with the airport on my doorstep i just cant be arsed travelling elsewhere but Leeds/Bradford and Newcastle could be ok dependent on trains dont want to be hanging around at those two for a train at 2 in the morning and waiting 4 hrs Turkey is coming up really cheap but for some reason we just dont fancy it even thou mates rave about the place , i contacted a lanza based travel company yesterday and their prices are a lot cheaper so may go with them

Sam... how much are you paying per minute to her mobile? I might be able to beat that for you.
Drop me a PM if you'd prefer to chat privately.

Pretty sure it's Famara Flash.... (shape of the hills in the background and the waves)

You're right. btw if you'd left the square parenthesis after the 2 at the end of the forst line your quote would have worked. You'll get the hang of it soon

Definitely Famara - was there when they were filming last year - they closed the beach road.
