Hi there, my hubby & I have been to Lanzarote a few times & love it, but we always stay in CT so this year we're staying in PDC for a week!

Can anyone recommend places to eat that serve local food i.e NO CHIPS Angry! tapas etc, fresh fish Grin. We are staying in Club Del Carmen.

Decent pubs too? Cool Where's the best place to get euros near to where we are staying as we always got them in CT from indian shop as always had best rate.

Sorry for all the questions we know CT so well but totally new to PDC!

Thanx a million xXx  Smiley

Hi there Arkgirl.

PdC is quite international when it comes to food... but this means that no matter what you want to eat - it's there. Hopfully some PdC fans will come in with their personal recommendations.

I seem to remember that Club del Carmen is in the Los Pocillos end of Puerto del Carmen. On the seafront there - between Los Pocillos and Matagorda (heading left as you face the seafront) there are oodles of bars and restaurants. Pulcinella is getting rave reviews (and has a page in the mian section of this website) but that's Italian and you're asking for tapas. Restaurante Odin is also excellent.

A cracking little place is just up from you. Find the roundabout at Los Pocillos that has (with the beach behind you) a commercial cente diagonally left and the Jameos Playa hotel diagonally right. There is a road heading straight up in front of you. Go up there and before you reach McDonald's drive thru... there's a little Spanish place there on the right, next to a shop with shop dummies etc in the window. Great food at great prices. Only snacky stuff... but good for a light lunch.

For euros, there are a couple of Indian shops on the front towards Matagorda - but I've never used them... so can't vouch for integrity.

Lots of pubs about - look at Pythons or Fiddlers Green in Los Pocillos centre. Both are lively in the evenings. Or you can get head along the seafront to Matagorda and pass oodles of bars... or a cab into the Strip for even more choice.

To be honest - either head to the Matagorda centre for your fish... oren route of course... also look at getting a cab to the Old Town - which has many excellent places. I'd guess at €~each way, but someone else may be able to help. Personal faves are Puerto Bahia right on the seawall in Old Town, or Mario's which is set back a bit. If you want exact directions, either ask in here... or your taxi driver should know for both.

Everywhere does chips I'm afraid... but there's always a salad option.

As you are in Los Pocillos... you are also very close to Playa Honda (40 minute walk... or 15 mins in a cab)... and there's loads of treats awaiting you there.  have a look at the Arrecife page on the mian site (click on lanzarote, and thehn on Arrecife) as there are some VERY SPanish places there.

I've only touched the tip of the iceberg... and am hoping that some other friendly faces in here will come and give you their tips too.

Have a lovely holiday!

Hello Arkgirl
Just had a quick "Google" as I'm unfamiliar with the location of Club Del Carmen. It appears to be in-between Los Pocilos & PDC or somewhere thereabouts ?
As Elle says about PDC, your best bet is definately up towards the old town for "traditional" food. If you go by cab, ask the driver to drop you off at the Biosfera shopping centre, then just walk downhill towards the harbour front. There are loads of restaurants down there, too many to name, but no doubt, if your a bit adventurous in the "food dept" you will certainly find what your looking for. As for bars, again, ooodles to chose from; English, Spanish, Irish etc.....
If you've never been to PDC before, it would be worth having a walk along The Strip (main Avienda). It has all just been re-paved etc & well worth a peek. Again, on the Strip, tons of bars, restaurants (mainly steak houses, Italian, Chinese etc)
Not sure what type of bars your lookin for, but, here's a small selection (On The Strip):

English bars for an early evening tipple, The Galleon, Sports Bar, Spanish Inn, Toby Jug, Spenders (Just off The Strip) plus loads more as ya walk along.
Bars for a late drink & a dance, 2 of my recomendations, Tropical & Ruta66. For live music, The American Indian always gets rave reviews.
Bars for a LATE LATE drink + dancing (Centro Atlantico) A collection of about 20 bars at the far end of The Strip. Mostly for the younger generation, but there's no prejudice !! ha ha ha.... I've even been dragged down there (against my better judgement) on occasions...Club 928 (open till 6am) & Nikki Beach appear to be 2 of the most popular bars around centro.
Hope ya have a great holiday

You're really a party animal on the quiet Mick!

Would you believe it?  First ever trip to Lanzarote we stayed at Los Pocillos and didn't even know the old town and harbour existed - you must go down there Arkgirl.

Club del Carmen is just past the san antonio on the opposite side as you head towards Matagorda , very centrally located, i seem to remember taht if you come out of the complex and get to the Avenida if you go left there by the small supermarket are a few shops and i am sure one of them was a spanish restaraunt where the locals went also if you go right there is a centre not far away(used to house my fav restaurant El Caracol) and also the italian just before Jaspers is a few mins walk

PARTY ANIMAL !!! ME !! Josie, you know me better than that  Grin

Last new years eve was the worst. I had this plan (that didn't work by the way)

The plan was; Go down to the Galleon about 8.30pm. Have a few drinks with some friends that I'd met on the complex, and to be in bed by about 1 "ish" Huh WRONGGGGG
Ohhh I went to the Galleon alright, and had the "nice few drinks" with friends as planned..til about 1 "ish" (all was going well)....THEN.....Danni, the lass that works in the Galleon decided it was time "we went out" for a drink !! So, Danni & friend dragged me off down to Centro, Nikki Beach to be precise. Where more GnT's flowed...till about 3 "ish". By which time I'd had enough. So, I bid my farewell's and did a "sharp exit left"... Coming down the steps in Centro, a lass, Andrea, that I know was stood outside of a place called Atomic "something", can't remember the full name, havin a quick fag (Andi was workin that night).... I got collared !! Off into this "Atomic" place goes me with Andi, and more GnT's flowed. By this time, about 4.30am I'd given up the will to live. Again, farewell's & a sharp exit. I was just "zig zaggin" my way down the Strip on my way back to the Apt.......YOU GUESSED IT....Ruta66. Two of the lasses that work in there, Bex & Lil, were on the door & spotted me.....I have no idea what time I came out of Ruta. All I do know is, the sun was well up in the sky & people were sunbathin on the beach !!  Grin Grin Grin.........Party animal ?? Naaaa, not me... Whatever gave you that idea Josie !!  Grin Grin Grin

I admire your stamina Mick!

What a lovely day it was on 1 January in Lanzarote - not a cloud in the sky - hence your sunbathers.

I remember having a weasel bank holiday lunchtime drink with Ali Oli on our terrace watching some party revellers still dressed from the night before, followed by a swim in the heated outdoor pool at Club Puerto Chico and a long lazy lunch at El Golfo where I took this sunset photo which some of you may remember me posting before.

hello arkgirl just looked on the map where you are sam is right there is small complex of shops, bars, resteraunts at the bottom of where you are staying.when walking in to pdc keep on the same side the  start is at the bottom of calle italia. walk along about 20yds you will find jaspers bar upstairs always have something on ie turns singers so maybe a good stop off point on the way home.on the same side about another 50 yards is antica tratorria one of my fav places to eat little bit pricey but the food makes up for it.you said about money changing on the same side about another 40 yards there are two close together use the one called metro i only use that because they are much nicer people also ciggies and booze is best bought from here.both asian.
mick above has told you about the bars, pubs, clubs he will know as he is a real party animal Wink cant say anymore on that.
other places to eat is emmas cantina great mexican in the old town also near the fariones area is casa del parmigano, the new world chinese is good and a little spanish place on the front called maritonis looks plain from the outside but great food on the inner i remember from april gone t.bone 10 euros 50 but they were alll gone by 8-30 Sad have a great time deano

Heyy Deano, if you've never tried it, give La Dolci Vita a go when your over in November. Ya know the one, just up from Ruta. Good food & plenty of it....Try the shoulder of lamb.....beautiful !! Next door is a good one as well; La Braseria.....BBQ'd mixed grill in there...Ya can't beat it...with a couple of pints !!  Grin

Cheers buddy...

Ahhhhh, know where ya mean deano. As I approach the end of the Strip, there's a gym facing ya, I think it belongs to the Farriones complex ? If I cut across there I'll find it yea ?
