Hi all.
I'm on a mission.
Just got a photo text from our friends who now have the new gas bbq in our flat in Playa Blanca fully assembled and ready to roll. Only problem is no gas. We previously discovered that they do it at Macher (and probably other) filling stations and I have been to Macher and seen the propane canisters (before we bought the bbq) but our friends have been there and they don't have any now.
So can someone please tell me the nearest place to Playa Blanca to buy barbecue gas? I know the Spanish normally use charcoal. We bought the barbecue at FT in Playa Blanca following a recommendation from Dave at MVP but they don't supply the gas.
All help gratefully received. If anyone is posting on other Lanzarote forums could they ask there please?
Thank you muchly.

I may be wrong - but I think I heard somewhere you have to give a NIF or Residencia when buying gas... Elle's having a look into it - if its necessary we're happy to help.

Have dropped a message on the forum that is a bit like El Rincon de Residentes. Hopefully will get an answer for you. The only place I knew of was the little garage right opposite IKEA... but maybe someone else will be able to offer an alternative.
No problem with the residencia as I'll go with them if need be.

Hi All
We have a gas BBQ at Casa Verde and used to have to go to Macher for our gas initially. The Ferrocur near MVP now sell gas which has made life a lot easier.
Only thing is that you need your first cannister to get started, as you can only buy a full one when you have an empty. Apparently when you buy the BBQ you get a cannister with it, or perhaps your receipt allows you to buy the first one. (Not 100% on that one).
To buy the gas you bring your empty cannister to the checkout girl and pay her. She gives you a receipt then and you drive to the back of the Ferrocur and hand it in with your empty. They give you the new one then.
Hope that works!
Cheers
Bernadette

Thanks everyone particularly Bernie for knowing that Ferrocur does gas!
No idea where the receipt is but obviously Ferrocur won't be open until tomorrow morning anyway- or is it still a fiesta? I might try calling them and attempting a conversation about what you need to get the first canister. We didn't get any gas when we bought the bbq from FT which is more or less next door to Ferrocur.
Thanks for the offers of help with residencia F and B - much appreciated - barbecue at our place definitely sometime this autumn/winter!

Might also have a bottle coming to you from Debs who owns La Campaña in Macher. She's getting back to us tomorrow night... so let us know if you get sorted in the meantime.

Thanks for that Elle. At least as our friends put the bbq together it would be nice for them to use it! J x

Right it isn't as easy as everyone hopes anymore (think it might be a kick back against Gangas selling us cheap bbqs). However if you go to the garage at Macher and go in to the office he can sell you a full new canister but you are supposed to bring a certificate or receipt from the bbq purchase. I found though that if you go confidently and say that you need a spare one as you are having a party (in Spanish or your best Spanish) then he'll give you one of the little ones (about 35 euro for cannister and 9 euro for the gas) ... I did it 2 weeks ago without a problem! Best of luck and if you get stuck give me a text on my mobile and I'll pop in on my way home! Cheers Phil

Phil
Thanks very much for that - brilliant.
We now have various options and I will definitely get back to you on the mob if I need to take you up on your kind offer.

Thanks all for public and private messages on this subject - we are now very well informed on the subject and the least we can to is to invite you for a barbecue in due course... Have had a text back from my visitors to say that they spent all of yesterday in the north of the island, they're going on the Catlanza catamaran tomorrow (which they loved last year), and having got back into the swing of eating on Playa Blanca seafront they're not that bothered about having a barbecue after all Sounds like they're having a good time.
