It's always good to see a positive article about Lanzarote in the UK papers. It all helps to promote the Island!

Also great to see our very good friends Paul and Sally getting a decent mention!

Enjoy!

Hiya Floo.
I first read this article on sunday morning, and by n large its a good article. But there are a couple of bits in the write-up that sadden me slightly.
I'd like to ask a couple of questions if I may ?
1, As a relative newcomer to the island (I've been visiting for 5 yrs) I'd like to know where/how the term "Lanzagrotty" came from ? I've never found the Island to be grotty in any way shape or form. In fact quite the opposite. I've said it a 1,001 times, "I feel its the friendliest/safest place I've ever visited. The people are fantastic. There are some brilliant; bars, restaurants, beaches, places to explore etc, its very relaxed, the climate is superb !! What do people want ?? Its certainly not "grotty"... If anyone could enlighten me, it would be much appreciated....
2, The other quote that upset me slightly was, "While Lanzarote's tacky side is perhaps its most famous facet" Huh Tacky side ?? I would say that the majority of holiday resorts sell a bit of "tac"....from Lands end to John "o" Groats, from Brazil to Benidorm.... I would go as far as to say that Lanzarote is quite timid in the "tac" department, compared to other places I've visited... or is there something from "the past" regarding "tac" of a "different nature" that I'm unaware of ?? Again, if anyone could enlighten me ??
With what I've written/asked above, please don't get the wrong impression. The article is a great advert for Lanza, but people, especially those who have never visited, sometimes just pick up on a couple of "bad bits" and that could put prospectve holidaymakers/tourists off....
We on the forum all know what Lanzarote is, and thats why we come back time after time..... its not grotty, its not tacky......its a little bit of heaven on earth.....and long may it be so....

Well said Mick!

Eventually people will get the message that it's a lovely place and journalists should not drag up negativity from the past - though they often start with the "Lanzagrotty" line to emphasise how much the place has moved upmarket.

The article is otherwise a good one though it contains a number of factual inaccuracies.

I'll back ya to the hilt Josie....concentrate on the positives and to hell with the "inaccurate historical " negatives...
There is certainly nothing grotty or tacky about Playa Blanca....
You can ask Flooey J, "what was I like when I stepped off the bus and we walked through town that afternoon eh Floo" ?? I was amazed at the place !! I think the terminology I used was, "it's so clean & neat & tidy" if my memory serves me right..Not a smidgen of any grot or tac whatsoever.....
I even had "one of those moments" on your patio Josie, on the night of the party...Here we go....another one of Micks memories !!  Grin Grin hope ya don't mind.....I'll explain....
I'd been having a good old natter & a drink with your Dad for quite a while as ya know, then dad had a bite to eat and toddled off to bed. We all did the "drinkin n minglin" bit. It was probably about 1 or 2 in the mornin (I think you were dooin the "shakira shakira" bit by then J) !!  Grin Wink  I walked to the end of the patio and just started lookin one way, up into town with all the little bars, lit up & stretching out into the distance. Then I looked to the right and the harbour with the big ferry & all the lovely yachts lined up and the lighthouse beyond...awwwww.. I know it sounds simple, but it was lovely. If ever I was completely at peace with the world, it was for that 5 minutes.... Lost in my own daft little thoughts..and the world was a beautiful place. Then Bart came up,  tapped me on the shoulder and asked, "whats up mick" ? Because I'm not usually so quiet.... I just said, "Its so beautiful"..... Bart just laughed, shook his head & passed me another GnT !!...ahhhh well, there ya go...  Grin  I'm prattlin again.....sorry...

That's lovely Mick.

Let's hope we do it all again this coming festive season with a visit to PDC as well.

Please don't tell everyone about my tendency to play Shakira and Abba alternatively (and very loud) after a few vinos - oops I just did so instead Grin

A lovely story Mick!

Wonder where I was at the time. Hmmm... probably either dancing with Josie and Racquel - or sat nattering in the corner to LyndyLou (whilst quaffing bacardis)

Hello you lovely people !!  Grin
Flash !!!! Your back !! YAY....

Definately hope we can do it again Josie....and also lunch up in PDC one afternoon. It would be lovely to have a natter & a few vino's..and also to meet Mr Josie, who unfortunately couldn't be with us last year...

Flooey...I think you were in the middle of Josie & Raquel at the time, givin it the old "SHAKIRA SHAKIRA" bit, whilst balancing a fine act of; a quadruple Bacardi in one hand & a bottle of plonk in the other !!  Grin Wink

Mick.....
