Nationwide are introducing charges on their Flex. a/c w.e.f. 1st Nov. They will be charging every time you use an ATM abroad. What a pity.

Good morning everyone.
What is the exchange rate in Lanzarote, We have aready changed £1000 over here getting arount 1.18 euro to the pound. But my friends who are joining us for our second week of our hols in sept can't decide wether to change before they go or wait till they are there.
Oh and anyone who is going soon DO NOT go to Nat west. they are running at approx 1.13 euros to the pound. RIP OFF!!!!

politicians and nappies have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly and for the same reason.)

I got 1.18 from NatWest last week when I transferred a chunk of money to our account in PB.

I found the best UK rate for a few hundred was in the UK Post Office - as long as you gave them cash, not a bank card. As a rule of thumb, in the better places like Sara here, they usually advertise about 2 cents below the interbank rate, but actually give you 3 cents, so today when the BBC web site says (one second whilst I check 1.222, I'd expect to get 1.19. The rates are so volatile to within a few cents, that it is a gamble whether you buy in UK or wait until you arrive, the better rate here may be cancelled by a decrease in interbank rate, or vice versa. Personally, I never wanted to carry that much, so I used to use my Natwest hole in the wall card to get cash, and a Post Office credit card for Hiperdino and restaurants I trusted. Over 10 days, that probably cost me about £10 or £20 more than bringing cash, but I didn't run the risk of losing hundreds to a thief.

I'm not sure what to do. I come over in September, ive been on the post office website for cash and at the mo its saying 1.1831, but ive also got a visa card which I get charged 2% for the transaction (no withdrawel fee). Should I bring all cash or try the luck with the ATMs for better rates? Has any1 got some advice

1.1831 is a half decent rate and only 1 centimo difference to here at the moment. I wouldn't recommend carrying large sums of cash anywhere though (just as you wouldn't at home). Make sure youir accommodation has a safe. xx
