Ha ha ha ha... ha ha ha ha ha... girlie... ha ha ha ha ha ha.

No, not a girlie girl me - but I don't mind the odd chick flick. Much prefer thrillers and sci-fi. I love Brit Flicks too. I do like horror - but it needs to have some depth. For example, I loved the original Japanese "The Ring" movies... but found the US versions dull.

On This Weeks Recommend List

Ghost Writer with Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan. An unremarkable ghost-writer has landed a lucrative contract to redact the memoirs of Adam Lang, the former UK Prime Minister. After dominating British politics for years, Lang has retired with his wife to the USA. He lives on an island, in luxurious, isolated premises complete with a security detail and a secretarial staff. Soon, Adam Lang gets embroiled in a major scandal with international ramifications that reveals how far he was ready to go in order to nurture UK's "special relationship" with the USA. But before this controversy has started, before even he has closed the deal with the publisher, the ghost-writer gets unmistakable signs that the turgid draft he is tasked to put into shape inexplicably constitutes highly sensitive material. An intelligent topical thrill ride that well acted. If you like vintage Hitchcock, and especially if you like the best work of Polanski, don't miss it.
Highly Recommended.

sci-fi thriller Splice. Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named "Dren", the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly. Adrian Brody puts in an excellent performance along with Sarah Polley and Delphine Chanéac,
very entertaining.

Crime thriller Chicago Overcoat starring Frank Vincent and Armand Assante, The fates of an aging hitman and a washed up detective become entwined when one last job leads to one last chance to settle an old score.
A well acted, well written solid crime flick.

British comedy crime thriller Perriers Bounty,A gangster named Perrier looks to exact his revenge on a trio of fugitives responsible for the accidental death of one of his cronies. Starring Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson and Gabriel Byrne.
this gangster flick has plenty of gritty and realistic violence.

British action thriller Baseline starring Dexter Fletcher and Gemma Atkinson,The Baseline is the centre of the East London grime club scene and the queue regularly stretches around the block. Danny works on the door - breaking up fights and managing drunk kids. However, when he rescues Terry, the club owner and local gang leader, from a hitman, Danny is suddenly plunged deep into an underworld he had tried so hard to avoid. Danny is promoted to manager, but only on the condition that he turns a blind eye to the shady goings on both on and off the dance-floor. Danny and his girlfriend Jessica dream of setting up their own club, but Danny is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice when he has to choose between loyalty, morality and his own dreams of escape.
A good small independent film with its attribute to honour, friendship and loyalty.

Comedy Death at a Funeral. A funeral ceremony turns into a debacle of exposed family secrets and misplaced bodies. With Keith David,Danny Glover, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock and Luke Wilson you know your going to get more than a few laughs.
Recommended.

Another British crime thriller Shifty. Shifty, a young crack cocaine dealer in London, sees his life quickly spiral out of control when his best friend returns home. Stalked by a customer desperate to score at all costs, and with his family about to turn their back on him for good, Shifty must out-run and out-smart a rival drug dealer, intent on setting him up for a big fall. As his long time friend Chris, confronts the dark past he left behind him, Shifty is forced to face up to the violent future he's hurtling towards.

After Life is a psychological horror film starring Liam Neeson, Christina Ricci and Justin Long, directed by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo from her original screenplay. A young woman caught between life and death... and a funeral director who appears to have the gift of transitioning the dead, but might just be intent on burying her alive. As a genre piece it works extremely well. Liam Neeson as the Funeral Director is tremendous and makes the duality of the character very believable. Justin Long is also a revelation - he can do serious acting! But overall I think it's the message of the film that stays in your head. What does it mean to be dead? And most importantly, what does it mean to be alive?

thats it...you should be able to find trailers for the films online  Wink Wink

They all look good. I did try to watch "Death at a funeral" a couple of times... but always turned it on too late at night, so kept falling asleep.

Cheers for the other tips though whisper - will watch them all! xx

I've still not got around to watching 2012, might give it a go tonight - it's PG, any thoughts on whether it's suitable to watch with a 7 & 11 year old around?

Started watching "After Life" last night... but got bored so switched it off.

Then started on "Ghost Writer". Was shaping up really well... but I was shattered so I went to bed - will definitely try it again soon though.

Have got all the movies you mentioned now whisper, with the exception of "Baseline" (which is coming) - cheers!

Recently watched repo men - i really liked it, wasnt an amazing film but i enjoyed watching it immensely. good shout whisper  Wink

also watched iron man 2 - its got robert downey jr in so that for me usually means im due a few laughs, very funny man. and all in all it was fairly good.

also watched the remake of 'The Amityville Horror' with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. Not a bad remake and again Ryan Reynolds is one i like, although none of his comedy in this one (i suppose the title kinda gives that away tho Roll Eyes).

Ha ha ha ha. I actually hasd forgotten he was in that. Yes he is quite easy on the eye - in a "boy next door" kinda way.

and he is topless practically the entire film so elle will be happy if she gets to look at her 'boy next door' for 90 minutes Wink

Also caught Night At The Museum 2 - if you saw the first one then expect the same. if you arent that fussed about watching it then go get a copy of Repo Men. More worth while.

last nite watched comedy 'Grown-ups' starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider and Salma Hayek as the main players, who return to their hometown for the funeral of their junior basketball coach who heavily impacted their lives. typical moments of physical comedy following his normal type of movie but a main theme of family life and relationships being more heavily focused on throughout than the slapstick or childish comedy (of which im a big fan) you would expect. This fim aint gonna win awards or anything but i was glad me and RiGhTy watched it and it has a good family feel about the whole film.

I think thats all the films ive watched since last posted on here. may go find some more now  Grin

Ghost Writer - excellent! Loved it! Thanks whisper!

Perriers Bounty - brilliant! Loved it! Thanks again whisper (although I didn't spot Gabriel Byrne

Splice - had to turn it off before I went insane. Not my type of film at all... and am horrified that Adrien Brody got involved (no thanks for that one whisper lol)

Chicago Overcoat - I enjoyed it... but wasn't overawed. But bart liked it a lot more than me - thanks yet again whisper

Shifty - excellent! Had me guessing and double guessing! Even more thanks to whisper.

Still haven't got a copy of Baseline unfortunately.

Mmmmm.... Ryan Reynolds....

Yes - watched Grown Ups recently. Yes suitably giggle-worthy!

We watched Damage at the weekend and I really enjoyed it.  Probably not one that would appeal to everyone - it has the wrestler (stone cold) Steve Austin as an ex con and how he gets on after coming out of prison.  Wont give too much away, but not too much to think about which always helps me! lol

Well at least I didnt fall asleep which I usually do when we put a dvd on!
