Interesting that we haven't had any comments on the banner advertising we added yesterday...  Did anybody notice them appear?

We're interested in your opinions. Does anyone actually really care? Neither of us are great fans of advertising in forums, so we've kept it - we think anyway - to a minimum. There's nothing more ugly than a forum littered with them all over the place.

We're sure you all know how these things work. If anyone buys from one of the advertisers we get a small commission, or if you click on the Google ads we get a share of what the advertisers are paying Google. This means an extra few pennies for us, and it is generally pennies, but as they say on the ads "every little helps".

I was away Saturday and some of yesterday, but when I logged in they were the first thing I noticed.

My first reaction was I didnt like the "look" but saying that its probably because its new and I'll get used to them!  Not sure if the pages take longer to load now, but that might be more down to problems at work.

We haven't seen any noticeable difference in page load time. Our internet connection is always slow! Smiley

Wouldn't have asked if we weren't interested to hear what people thought of it Steve. Appreciate the honesty!

They would only ever be related to the site - as we can control what goes in there. It's not advertising for advertising sake - it should be targeted to its audience.

But keep the comments coming guys! I know we had a couple of PMs before the thread was unlocked... so don't be shy. This is your forum too - and as Alan said... we really do care about our members and how they feel.

Elle/Bart..some of the ads are a bit random..like jessops stationary one. I'm sure it'll be cool once you tighten up on what is shown.

I tend to dislike advertising on websites, but I wouldn't feel strongly about it, and it certainly wouldn't affect my use of the site, unless it was very overbearing.

Sometimes on Photobucket I inadvertently double click on something (a habit from my Apple only days!) and then I find myself linked into some site that I had no intention of looking at.  Not that I mind what pops up, it's just a distraction when I am trying to concentrate on something else.

I think the fact that the advertisements are related to travelling to the Canaries etc is a good thing.  I reckon a lot of people visiting CN are there because they are researching holidays, so chances are that the advertisements may be of interest to them.

At least when you are reading posts and typing you aren't aware of the banner advertising on CN so I don't think it's an issue.  I guess new visitors to the website will wonder why we're even commenting on it!   Roll Eyes

I feel really dull - I hadn't noticed. Now I have, it doesn't worry me. I agree with Bernie.  If I click on lots of them many times, can we split the take? (Joke!)

My home broadband is quite slow (I can't sensibly watch most YouTube videos at the moment) but there is definitely more waiting with the new format - only seconds though.

Just deleted the rest of this cos it looks like a winge - sorry!

IMHO it doesnt bother me - i would guess that the positives it would provide to you would outweigh the negatives that we come up with (speaking for myself obviously)

I hated it and actually commented on it in a PM to a friend but I didn't want to put anything negative on what is a great site. Don't worry I'll soon get used to it.
