Hi there bigboack!
The best fish I've had yet was at La Bocaina (had fabulous sea bass there on Friday). They usually have it on their specials menu. I used to really like Brisa Marina... but they seem to struggle with things when they are busy.
La Chalanita is getting rave reviews for it's fish... and pedros is always consistent. Los Hervidores (behind the Farmacia opposite the taxi rank in town) also gets good marks for it's fish.
To be fair - nowhere is really bad. All are pretty good - it's just that one or two stand head and shoulders above the others.
To be fair... if you love your fish - then you MUST go to El Golfo... and try any of the restaurants there. It means a drive - so best to do a lunchtime, so you're not tempted by the vino.
I'll let someone else come in and wax lyrical now hon!
Have a great holiday!
Elle xx

Where to start?
A lot depends on what sort of atmosphere you want as some of the local restaurants have really enthusiastic friendly service but mediocre food, others have unfriendly almost surly service but excellent food. If you want to be right on the seafront in Playa Blanca sitting outside watching the waves there are only a few choices, namely Brisa Marina, Brisa del Mar, and Almacen de la Sal, right in the centre and a couple of others I haven't tried.
Going west towards the ferry port Casa Pedro has superb fish and a lovely location but the service can be offhand. La Chalanita next to the left as recommended by Elle has most of its tables upstairs and run by two very enthusiastic Spanish guys from the mainland. You will get very good service there but their choice of fish will be less extensive than Casa Pedro.
For cheaper and more local fish dishes try the restaurants at the ferry port - the atmosphere (plastic chairs) and service can leave much to be desired though.
Apart from that I agree with everything that Elle has said - of course!

Hi Big Fella! - I'm Irish too, but no idea what Boack means! I think it must be a cryptic clue!
Anyhow, when it comes to talking about food I am always happy to dive in with my "tuppence ha'penny worth" as my good old granny used to say!
I am pasting an extract below that I send to guests who rent our villa in Playa Blanca to give them a rough idea of where we like to eat both in Playa Blanca and beyond.
Maybe you will get some snippets of info from it that will help in planning your hols!
In order of preference, here goes:
La Campana (Our favourite. Great for steak (and any pasta/pizza I've had there has been tip top)
La Chalanita (Great food - lots of flambees! Nice atmosphere - You may need to pre book! Popular!)
L'Artista (Get a table on the veranda! Recommend the ravioli with salmon & prawn filling)
La Bocaina (Very varied menu, excellent quality - some dishes a little small, so check before you order!)
Arte y Pasta (Very good pastas & pizzas. Good chips too!)
Indian Tandoor House (Excellent food, and it's 10 times better than "Spices" on the seafront)
Typico Espanol (Great for fish and grilled meats - quite inexpensive too)
The Terrace Bistro (Good home cooking from UK ex pats - simple layout but tip top food - Try breakfast too)
The Mandarin (Cheap & cheerful Chinese food) Love their prawn toast and prawns in black bean sauce)
Casa Pedro (A little up market, but good fresh fish & seafood)
Takeaway pizza from Piccolo is very good value and very tasty. They deliver free if you order €15 worth. We go for the Pizza Timanfaya. (We like it spicy!)
For lunches outside of town when we doing a bit of travelling, here are our favourites
1) Tapas bar on the beach at Arrieta (Colm will give you directions - it's a MUST on any holiday!)
2) Casa Emilia in Femes (the village overlooking Playa Blanca - try the garlic prawns & Canarian Stew.)
3) Mar Azul - El Golfo (Not 100% I have the right name for this restaurant, but the business card for it is in one of the drawers in the Lounge - it's definitely something "Azul". Be warned there is no menu and when they tell you what's up for grabs, get the prices first. It can be expensive but the portions are good. As a guide when we go there we order garlic prawns, a mixed salad, bread, Canarian potatoes and one grilled fish. That's lots of food and washed down with a glass of wine each and some water it would cost 25-30 euro).
4) We also like to stop at one of the tapas bars in Teguise (but not on Sundays which is Market Day Mayhem) but I can't remember the name of the one we enjoyed most. I can tell you that outside the restaurant there is a "sculpture" (for want of a better word) of a tin man with a dog. The dog is lifting his leg to pee on the man and I think the man is "giving him a little shower" in return if my memory serves me correctly!! Anyhow, Teguise is not that big and I know that this restaurant is in a street that leads off from the Main Town Square there the big Church is.
Having said all that about places we eat, I always say to people that tastes differ and all restaurants can change staff/standards/menus over the course of a few months, so please don't take it as gospel that all of these places will be as popular with you and your family as they are with us! This is a guideline only!
Slan go foill "Fear Mor" agus ta suil agam go bain tu an taithneamh as do laethnata saoire in Lanzarote!
