La Campaña is in La Mulata (by Natura Palace) isn't it? It used to be owned by the same guy that owns Arte y Pasta - but not anymore.

All sound advice... Here's my two 'don't bother' recommendations...

El Comendatore (marina)....  http://www.canarynightlife.net/forum/index.php/topic,3642.0.html

Spices (seafornt)..... http://www.canarynightlife.net/forum/index.php/topic,1387.0.html

Both far to bad to ever be given another chance....

Thanks Elle for popping in there!  Only got a chance to get back on the forum now, and at that it's only while the Chilli Con Carne bubbles away, and before I get to put the rice on!  Damian and I are working our way through Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food and really enjoying ourselves!

Anyhow, Josie we really do love La Campana and it's always on our list of places to eat when we visit.

Bart - I am 50/50 about El Commandatore.  Have had some very good and some very poor fare there.  I recommend it with hesitancy depending on what's ordered!  I love the location and the staff have generally been very nice any time we have visited.  (They also serve some of our favourite wines, so it's the old rose coloured glasses kicking in every now and then perhaps!!)  We have tended to enjoy it more when we have gone with Colm & Julie or Dave & Marcia and I think that's because they guide us through the menu to make the most of what we get!  I don't include it on my list of recommendations for guests because I don't think it's a safe bet, but still find myself drawn back there intermittently on our holidays!

Agree with you 100% about Spices (as you will see on my list).  I avoided it for a long time because of reviews I had read here, but I joined a group of friends for dinner last year and had no choice in where we ate.  I went along prepared to give it a chance to prove itself ..... and it did!  AWFUL!

Anyhow - time for me to go stir my Chilli!

El Commandatore: Didn't have the same experience with the staff at the time either - they were dismissive and arrogant. No second chances for us!

Ok Guys just got back to the UK, Snow rain 3c. want to come back to Playa Blanca. Had a wonderful time, Stopped at a villa at
rubicon residencia, Ten minutes to the marina, and a futher 15 mins to the harbour, loved the walkways and also hired a bike for the day, Cycled to the lighthouse and back Loved it. We are looking to come back the first week in January next year, planning it  for the wifes 40TH
Looking to hire a villa(6 people 3 bedrooms) for about ten days also, so if anyone has a villa available for hire in January from the 6th to the 16th ish depending on flights, drop me line please, Whats the weather like in JANUARY please, will it be hot Daytime/ Evening, and are the restaurants open in January or do they close down like other places. Thanks you lot for the advice so far.

Don't eat at the Restaurant LANIS at the marina it was terrible,Our starters were whipped away whilst we were still eating them, I ordered meat paella for myself and friends wife and they brought seafood paella and said they had no meat paella, she is allergic to seafood so didn't eat it (I was ill after), Mrs had fillet steak (Tough as old boots) Friend had T bone steak (overcooked when he asked for medium/rare), served by 5 different waiters during all this, they brought water we didn't order, I will never go there again......
We all loved the TABERNA Tapas bar at the marina ate there 3 times fab food, fab waiter, and good spot to sit and drink and play cards no pressure. 5 Stars for that..  Any way off to look at flights for January. Wink Wink

bigb  there's a feller on here got a very nice villa he rents - goes by the name of Smokie, why not pm him - not sure if it's the size that would suit you?

January can be lovely - the last three out of four have been gorgeous, the other a bit variable but nice enough.

Yes everywhere is open, it's one of the busiest times because the weather's crap everywhere else in Europe.

Hi again bigboack! Glad you had a good time... albeit not a nice time at one place (shame, we've always enjoyed it there - maybe a bad day for them?)

Yes smokie's villa could be right up your alley. His website will be going live in the next few days - so you'll be able to see some piccies etc. Failing that, have a look at www.lanzarotelates.com - she's a really good pal and a real fan of this website too!

Combination of events John. Resulted in about an hour and a half's sleep. Let's just say that this little lady will be having a siesta today!
