Good Morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

My name is Luke (as you will have guessed), Im 21 on Thursday and I will be moving from England to Lanzarote at the beginning of June. I thought it would be a good idea to sign up here and get to know some people from Lanzarote as it may help me settle in the long run, as I am moving out alone.

I am due to start an Internship with Nautic Dive in PdC for initally 6 weeks.  This is to get me qualified as a Diving Instructor - as currently I am only trained as a Diver, and to make sure Living out in Lanzarote is right for me.  I have holiday'd out in Lanzarote (and completed my first dive out there), but I know living and holidays are 2 different things - so I am yet to find out how much different they are.

I'll take another look around the forum as it was late when I looked so didn't take much information in lol.

Regards
Luke

Hi Luke,
Welcome to the forum. Good luck with the move over. Certainly is different living here to hoidaying here. Dunno about you but when you holiday here for a week or 2 you tend to go a bit mental on the eating and drinking front. Bit more difficult to do that when you live here...unless you're in the fortunate position of having lots of savings!!

Cheers Rich,

Thats another of my problems ... I'll have to learn to cook! I can wash and iron but food is a whole different task lol.  I did have savings for a house in the UK, but when an opputunity came up to become a Diving Instructor abroad, that idea went out the window ... That may now end up paying for an apartment in Lanzarote instead =)

Great that you already have a diving role set up! Congratulations hon! This is an amazing opportunity for a young chap to experience life out of Blighty. Good for you!

Cheers for the Welcoming guys,

I thought I would sign up to see if I can make some friends/contacts before going out.  I know moving on my own - away from all of my family is going to be tough to start with, so would help to get to know some people on the island apart from my work colleagues.

Good luck Luke, what an adventure.  Keep us all informed, and yes as the others say you'll pick a lot of information up on this site, and hopefully have a lot of fun doing it.

I know it's dull to say this, cos everyone says it, but, learn Spanish - it's essential.

I will be learning spanish, I know basics as I studied it at GCSE level in Secondary School, luckily that was only a few years ago =).

Now I just have to dig deep into my head to put the rest together lol, I have been reading through Lynn Cobb's free Spanish course from Lanzarote Relocation ... also the place where I found this forum.

Luke - sounds like you'll do okay. Having work to come to really is the biggest hurdle. And generally you sound like 'a man with a plan', and motivated... Good luck!

Cheers Guys,

My two cousins were talking about that the other day.  One can't wait for me to leave as she knows I'm up for the challenge and I can look after myself.  The other isn't to keen as its a long way from home.  The one who isn't sure lives in Sutton and by the sounds of it doesn't want to leave it.  Why I will never know... lol
