it was sent this morning before I'd arrived in the office, plus she works in our IT department and regularly works out of Manchester/London/Nottingham/Leicester ................ so depending on where she's based today .................

Keith you would be amazed at how much communication happens by email in law offices (and no doubt other sorts of offices).  I exchange about 20 emails a day with colleagues who sit only a few feet from me.

Happens here too. Alan and I sit about 5 feet apart yet still email each other (but that's so we don't disturb each other whilst working).

Also because then I don't have to actually speak to him Roll Eyes

Yes but surely you're emailing documents and important things that you need a trail off not just chit chat.
