Hi to you all.  Myself and my family (Husband, 2 kids) have been visiting Lanzarote for around 10 years.  We have always stayed in villas and always in the very lovely Playa Blanca.  Last year we were amongst the "unfortunate"  Wink victims of Eyjafjallajökull.  We were due to fly home on the day that flights were grounded.  We were evacuated to Costa Teguise and enjoyed the following six days at the Occidental Grand Teguise Playa.  We had never done a hotel holiday before and through choice I would still prefer to have a villa.  However it was all good and all mostly free as we were made AI for most of our stay.  (I hate the wristbands and had to buy a cheap bracelet to cover mine whilst out and about!)  But it was really good for the kids as they got away from each other and made friends and we were able to leave them if they didn't want to join us on a wander around CT.  So to finally get to my point, this year we are going to do a week in a villa in PB (booked) and thought that we would do a week in an aparthotel and are probably looking to stay in CT again.  So can any of you lovely people recommend accommodation?  Kids are or will be 14 and 15 so if you know of any popular for families like us (only a few days will be in school holiday)  My searches are throwing up Sands Beach Resort and Los Zocos as favourites so far so I would be especially interested in opinions on those.

Thanks for reading xx

Welcome to the forum VT.

I've never stayed in CT but I am sure that others will help.

Thanks for the welcome Josie.  Quite liked CT but it did seem to cater for the Brits a bit more than I like.  My heart will always be in PB though Kiss

Welcome to the forum Vino Tinto.

It's a few years since we stayed at Los Zocos but when we were last there, the place seemed a little "tired".
It's a shame as it was the first place we ever stayed on the island twenty odd years ago and it was then all new and lovely.
Over several subsequent visits the standards dropped.
Yes, it's cheap and cheerful but the food was poor.
I know that it's always busy as they do have offers that are cheaper for AI (including flights)  than booking just a flight, so it might be worth checking the Manchester Evening News (online, perhaps?) to see if there's a bargain to be had.
If so, then the cheap price would mean that the money you'd save could be spent eating out and then the standard of the food is irrelevant.

The kids club is about the best reason to go but as your's are a bit too old for that, then it's not much help.

It is several years since we stayed there as we now live in Playa Blanca so take anything I say with caution, there will hopefully be someone with more up to date information

Thanks smokie.  We will be going SC never, ever AI.  We like to get out and about.  Lucky, lucky you living in PB.  Villa on Los Calamares all booked up from 28/4 following a week somewhere else - maybe not Los Zocos Wink

Celeste apartments are quite nice, they are a little out of the way (about 15-20 minutes walk into town) but it is quite a pleasant walk and the Playa de las Cucharas shopping centre is nearby which has some nice restaurants, Celeste is also not far from the beach.

Las Marinas was ok about 8 years ago.  Again nearer Bastian than the centre.

Hello Vino Tinto, and welcome to the forum.

Clanky's suggestion of Celeste is a goodun... they're really central too.

There are a few CT fans in here, so hopefully they will pop in with some feedback too.

I... like Smokie and John B... live in Playa Blanca. Los Calamares is lovely - I've always liked that area.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone I shall check those places out later.  Thanks for the welcome Elle.  Los Calamares is a fab place to stay - fourth year running for us.  And this year we are returning to the same villa for the first time as it was so lovely.

Perhaps I should now post in the appropriate boards for any more opinions on places to stay?

Hi there - Los Zocos is ok for the price and very central - thats the reason I stay there - food is nowhere near as good as it used to be - but then I always go S/C, another hotel that is ok is El Trebol and a lot of Germans stay at the H10 - both of these are very central.

I had a dream last night that a good friend who is currently single met the woman of his dreams at Los Zocos! Bizarre - the men in white coats will be coming for me next!

I saw Baccara (the female duo who had a big hit with, "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie") doing a live show for Spanish TV at Los Zocos in 1987.
I wouldn't have said that theywere the girls of my dreams though.
