My searches for a week in CT keep pointing me towards Sands Beach Resort.  Have any of you any knowledge of it - good, bad or indifferent.  Need to crack on with the booking soonish.

Thanks

xx

Thanks for the quick response.  We are looking for a week SC in CT and all I ask is that the sun shines on the balcony for most of the day which Beachfront accommodation at the Sands seems to offer.  (Got to start off the tan before relocating to PB for the second week!)  It does have to be teenage friendly too.  Any recommendations?

Ha ha!  Did a bit of bar research ourselves when stranded there due to the volcano last year.  Just can't remember the names of the bars now but would know where to find them and the ones to avoid!

Walked past there a few weeks (months?) ago and the concept is quite nice, on the downside it's a fair bit away from the main town centre and I have heard that the quality of the apartments varies from one to the next, that said it is not far from the Playa de las Cucharas shopping centre which has some nice cafés and bars etc.

Yeah about a 15 minutes stroll from Las Cucharas... and then another 10 mins into town. Not heard bad reports about the place. If you're used to strolling the prom at PB... then you'll be fine with Sands Beach.

Would think your teens would want to head into town though - again Bob (or rather, his daughters) could give some tips on "younger" places to head to.

Thank you both.  Maybe a bit far out then? I have looked at it on Google Earth and didn't think it was so bad.  Last year we were put in the Occidental Grand Teguise Playa which we thought was a good location.  We strolled out most days and probably the closest we got to Sands Beach was a bar at the end of the beach.  I guess that was roughly halfway there?  Aargh - I hate making decisions.  Don't mind a walk but ...  In PB the most we probably do is the harbour to Dorada beach.  The kids will be 14 and 15 and this week is more for them than us Roll Eyes  Just want somewhere that they might meet up with others of a similar age and that we (husband and myself) feel comfortable at abandoning them for an hour or so but fairly quick to get back to if required.

Can you give me some idea of where the Playa de las Cucharas shopping centre is please?  Maybe we did not see as much of CT as we thought as I can't see where it might be that we did not walk to Huh

Sorry to be such a needy newbie.

If you are looking on Google Earth then Playa de las Cucharas is the beach to the north / north east of the main town centre, centro commercial playa de las cucharas is at the northern end of the beach and sands beach resort is to the north of that again.

Ta muchly xx  We did not get to that shopping centre then.  My quest will continue.  Shame as I really liked the look of Sands Beach.

If you're used to doing the harbour to Dorada walk in PB... then you'll be fine with Sands Beach honey.

I'm sure someone on one of the forums said that either the ones that are owned by the company have been done up, but the provately owned ones vary, or that the company owned ones are tired so the privaete ones are a better bet. Can anyone remember?

sands beach is lovely, walked round it to check on an apartment,5 min (tops)walk to las currachas shoping center not really alot there but it leads you straight on the beach front(other short cuts available)if you keep on the main road theres plenty of bars and eateries i.e la esquana, highlander, british cafe, lively ladys, red lion etc etc.i would deffo stay there 2/3 e taxi from the far end of town so not far at all if you had a tipple lol.

Still making our minds up  Roll Eyes  We will be hiring a car so if the walk was a bit much we could always drive in and taxi back if we did have a tipple or three.  Can't wait to find the Spanish bar near the bandstand (?) that had the loveliest Sangria.  To be perfectly honest we try to avoid the British Pub type places.

Thanks so much everyone for the advice so far xx

I Feel the need to add a disclaimer.  The Irish Anvil in PB is Irish and therefore not a place that we try to avoid  Wink  xx
