SUFTUM !

They have a phrase for it, so presumably they get it. I'm suffering big time at the moment from hay fever, just wondering if anyone from the uk who suffered from hay fever didn't suffer from it anymore once they relocated ? I know it's just not in Ireland that I'm affected as I got it really bad 2 years ago last February while visiting Berlin zoo.

Jim

One of the main reasons for choosing Lanzarote as a holiday destination for me is the lack of pollen/other allergens. My occasional asthma and tendencies to sneeze at the least bit of pollen from trees/grass or whatever are always hugely improved over there.  It also helps that there are few factories, very little heavy traffic and virtually zero industrial type air pollution.  The sea is of course also largely unpolluted due to the island's location in the Atlantic Ocean.

I have got hay fever now quite badly which is annoying.  I expect the only times it is a problem in Lanzarote are when a lot of grass and other vegetation grows after heavy rain abd I know that people also suffer from streaming eyes and blocked up noses during a "calima" when the air is full of dust from the sahara.

I'm sure Elle finds it a lot better but I'm sure she will post.

I only have mild asthma i.e. need to use meds once a fortnight or so and in 7+ weeks straight of being here - no problems. We had a calima shortly after I arrived and it was mildy unpleasant for an afternoon, but that's it.

As has already been mentioned, I suspect many ex-pats choose this place for the favourable conditions health-wise.

Yes - my hayfever is non existent now... it was grass pollen that used to wipe me out.

However, some people do still suffer here... with the palm pollen apparently.

I am okay during the calima... although I do occasionally have to use my asthma inhaler then. Still not a patch on how I used to suffer back in Blighty.

With me it's tree pollen, I'm normally over it when everyone else is just beginning. The birch tree pollen in Germany wiped me out, never experienced anything like it. Palm pollen ? Hasnt affected me as yet, but generally visit Lanza December and July/august

I don't suffer from hay fever, but sometimes when doing big walks along the coast my eyes sting quite badly for some time after.

Yes, I wondered that, but tears are salty anyway, so why would that happen?
