Anyone watch this dramatisation on the beeb tonight ? It was about the volcanic eruption in Santorini In 1700bc that destroyed the Minoan civilisation. Was very good, gave me pause for thought about living on a volcanic island  Wink

Jim.
Take a look on Youtube at "Mega Tsunami's"..... There's one on there about; I think its Gran Canaria.....I'm sure it was on the National Geographic channel at some point... And what would happen to America if things "took a turn".... Frightening !!

I've heard about that, if it kicks off half of Gran Canaria falls into Atlantic, then we're all toast !

Is it not La Palma ?
But is there any reason to think that it will "Blast" into the sea rather than split and fall in bits.
I was told by someone that our volcanoes were Hawaiian style ones that "Dribble" and supposedly nobody on Lanzarote has died as a result of a volcanic eruption.

Now that you mention it, I remember from way back on my OU. Geology course, there are Hawaiian and Andean volcanos, the Andean ones are explosive, a lot more destructive, the Hawaiian ones have gentle flow and come with pineapple  Wink

I think you could be right there Smokie; the most "western" of the Canary Isles. Sorry about the "Gran Canaria" error.
