I walked, with a couple of friends, the ten miles or so along the coast from La Santa village, round the sports facility island (which according to a notice is being Compulsorily purchased by the Cabildo for €12 million - nice they have the money to spend!) and along past the little surfing village at Caleta del Caballo. The coastal walk from there on is easy, being a sandy 4X4 track. We arrived in Famara after three hours, having drunk 1.5 litres of water because of the Kalima, just nicely ready for a large beer! This was a one way trip, as we'd met in Famara, and left a car there, driving back to La Santa to start the walk.
I've now only got a 6 mile stretch of the coast to do, between Orzola and Jameos de Agua, but that will have to be along the road, because there is no continuous path through the lava. We'll probably get a swim in one of the nice lagoons along the way.

Along the way, we saw a couple of friendly monsters - see (two of) the photos.

Does that mean you've walked the complete coast of Lanzarote , except for that section ?

Yes Jim, over about the last 18 months, and in sections of up to about 12 miles.

Possibly, Josie, but even for a resident, taking a car over costs about €50, so I'd have to do a lot of planning first.

Do you know the length of the circumference of the island? and Fuerteventura for that matter?

Flash, not offhand, but the web says about 160 miles.. It's that fractal thing, how finely divided do you want the measurement to be.

Nice photo's John
Love Famara, used to stay with a pal who had a villa in Soo just up the road. Some very good fish resturants there.
Famara that is, not Soo.

I always think it's a funny little place Soo, if they had one more horse it would be a one horse town!
