Irish Colleen and I did Montañas Cuervo and Negra on Sunday. Cuervo is the amazing crater that Elle, the Josies, the Flashes and I did the week before, and Negra is the 500 metre one across the road from it. Negra is a big mountain completely covered in deep picon which gives it the colour, and also makes it very tiring to climb. On top it only has a shallow crater, full of geraniums, sedums - the flowering plants in the picture which are like giant Stonecrops - and an olive grove. The views around are, as often on the mountains, amazing. One picture shows Cuervo from the top of Negra, and another shows  Cuervo through the doorway of a little building containing a well at the foot of Negra.  Negra is a fascinating mountain, and easily accessible, but it doesn't half exercise your legs!

Not jealous much John, I would far rather be dealing with the luvvies in the museum than walking in the sunshine.

Love the sedums.  They must get a lot of rain there.

Love the sedums.  They must get a lot of rain there.

It's a mountain out on on its own, sticking up into the trade wind, so it'll precipitate moisture and, because it's covered in thick picon, will retain it.  The olive trees formed a covered space, which, whilst only about 4 feet high was the size of a large room - totaly shielded from the wind, and from most of the bright sunlight.
