R5 RETAIL of sci-fi action flick X-Men First Class. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN. Brilliant performances, great characters, grand-scale story telling, loads of action and an all round fantastic movie. Highly Recommended.

Another Retail this week is martial arts epic 13 Assassins. In which a group of assassins come together for a suicide mission to kill an evil lord. An outstanding genre masterpiece and a classic homage to Seven Samurai. Highly Recommended.

Paul Giamatti, Jason Flemyng, James Purefoy, Brian Cox, Charles Dance and Mackenzie Crook all star in the historical action adventure Ironclad, another Retail this week. It is the year 1215 and the rebel barons of England have forced their despised King John to put his royal seal to the Magna Carta, a noble, seminal document that upheld the rights of free-men. Yet within months of pledging himself to the great charter, the King reneged on his word and assembled a mercenary army on the south coast of England with the intention of bringing the barons and the country back under his tyrannical rule. Barring his way stood the mighty Rochester castle, a place that would become the symbol of the rebel's momentous struggle for justice and freedom.

Historical war drama Beneath Hill 60 is also a Retail this week. The extraordinary true story of Oliver Woodward. It's 1916 and Woodward must tear himself from his new young love to go to the mud and carnage of the Western Front. Deep beneath the German lines. Woodward and his secret platoon of Australian tunnelers fight to defend a leaking, labyrinthine tunnel system packed with enough high explosives to change the course of the War. A tense, absorbing war drama of a fairly unknown and impressive true story of courage, heroism, sacrifice and friendship in World War One. Recommended.

Fantasy action flick Witchville with Luke Goss and MyAnna Buring is also a Retail this week. A top nothch SyFy swords and sorcery movie. Well worth checking out. Recommended to SyFy fans.

Paul Giacmatti was the brilliant eponymous hero of John Adams, a series about the founding of the US, which every British and American schoolchild should be shown.
