Lots of people drive to near to the big radio mast, park up and walk up the side of the mountain that faces towards the marina rather than straight up "the front" that faces across to Fuerteventura.

There is a path up that side.
There are lovely views from up there so don't forget your camera/binoculars and, of course, all the usual stuff about sunscreen, water an'all that.
It's only about twenty minutes or so, depending on the ages/fitness etc to get to the top from that side but then it's worth a walk around the whole rim of the crater and on the far side there is a sort of "quarry road" path down into the crater, so it's safer to get down into it that way.
There is another longer slower route/path round the back of the mountain.
I wouldn't suggest walking downwards on the steep front face of the mountain, Madstock told us that he'd done it but I still don't know if he was just winding us up, but he was making his way to Le Moka I think so perhaps he did.

We walked up the side as Smokie described, it's the obvious path when you look at the thing, then when you get to the top there's a longer easier path down at about 90 degrees to your right off the crater.  When we hit the road we turned left down to la Moka (for coffee) and then looped back round the mountain to the start.  That whole route is about six miles.

This link with a map might help too - I published it back in November 2010.

Enjoy the walk!

Sounds like brekkie at La Moka and a trek up the mountain to walk it off is a good plan  :)We do a lot of walking along the Cornish coast line so this will be a bit different...
Thanks for all the very helpful info...arrive next Sat counting down.. Smiley

If you're starting and ending at la Moka head up to the road go anticlockwise round the mountain and the climb up is more or less opposite paradise island hotel, you'll see it easily from there anyway.  Then come back the way I said and continue anticlockwise back round the mountain - at least it's downhill all the way back. Enjoy  Grin
