Yes, I appreciate that - but water or no water - Lanzarote is somehow not meant to be green and lush. Except on a golf course of course.
Chris

At certain times of the year parts of the Island do in fact turn quite green and for me are all the more stunning for the contrast with the rest of the Island.

I don't think I have heard too many people describe Lanzarote as beautiful (although parts of it certainly are, but almost everyone I know who has taken the trouble to get out of the resorts has described it as stunning, breathtaking, incredible, etc.

As someone said above it definitely does divide people, I guess that for those of us how choose to live on the Island most of us would be on the side of loving the landscape.

Below is a link to a set of photos I took last march up around Maquez, which will show you how green it  can be.  For starters look at this photo.

Wow John, I clicked on the link fully expecting it to be blocked as most things usually are at work and it actually let me view your pictures!

Looking at the date, I remember being over last January and the rain was torrential for the entire week I was there and parts of the island were flooded.

Its no wonder parts of the island were so green at that time!

For me, this was totally unexpected! I never knew Lanzarote could be like this. Thanks for an excellent picture, John.
