Something funny about "show unread posts etc". I just logged back on and it said there were no new posts but there's yours Flooey and if I look around I suspect others.

Anyway, back to the weather the wunderground link from Lanzarote island is down at the mo but it seems to have been a  bit of a microclimate type thing (not that I'm an expert).

Well as an ex-Geography student at Uni I can explain both Lynne's question (does Playa Blanca get better weather than the rest of the island?) and Josie's question (is it really possible that Playa Blanca got all the rain when the rest of the island was dry?) ... the answer to both is the set of volcanic hills that sit to the North-East of Playa Blanca (Femes!) ... a large amount of the cloud cover and rain that hits Lanzarote will come in FROM a North-Easterly direction ... as Playa Blanca has these hills to their NE then quite often the clouds will be stopped between Playa Quemada, Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen by these hills forcing them to reduce some weight (therefore rain!) over these hills ... this provides a very good valley on top of the hills (between Las Casitas de Femes and Femes) for growing crops because of the rain (and shade provided by the higher hilltops) ... the freak weather that happened on Sunday was caused by a  light South-Westerly wind which brought some very heavy rain clouds directly over Playa Blanca, when these then hit the volcanic hills at Femes they stopped and were held there forcing them to drop large amounts of rain in a very short time period, this would have normally caused the clouds to move again but the drop in temperature seemed to create an unstable atmosphere that with large temperature differences between the air and the land literally sucked the cloud into a stall situation stopping it from moving whilst it continued to unload its rainfall - this continued in a circle for over 90 minutes until the atmosphere stabilised and then the low SW wind was able to carry the remainder of the cloud over Femes.
Knowing that to most of you this is extremely boring I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching the whole formation of the cloud over the sea and was fascinated to see something I studied occur in real time!

I didn't love the rain when I got back from the Wax that day though.
My pump room was totally flooded, my pump from my aljibe (sp.) was flooded, all the electric had tripped.
I had to dismantle it, dry it out and refit it. 4 1/2 hours later we had water again.
I'm sure I never moved from Scotland to here for that nonsense, Grin lol
