Speaking personally, although we will always eat the local fayre on our holidays… we also love Italian food! So we were very pleased to hear about Mamma Mia, in the Vueltas area of Valle Gran Rey on the sunny Island of La Gomera.

Mamma Mia is open every day of the week. Lunchtimes from 11am until 2pm, and in the evenings from 6pm until 10pm.

This is an extremely friendly restaurant with a true Italian atmosphere. A good range of Italian wines are available for you to choose from, as well as your usual favourites.

Onto the food – using the freshest of ingredients…. all the dishes are cooked traditionally, but incorporating a modern twist to really please the eye as well as the palate.

The menu changes constantly, and you can view a sample menu by clicking the link towards the top of this page. However, the following dishes should also be given prominent mention.

Sunday in Italy is “pasta fresca” day, the real deal of the passionate Italian cuisine! We start from a simple recipe based upon fresh handmade egg pasta to create the most diverse and delicious dishes. The limit may only be imagination! A classic dish to taste with family and friends is Ravioli Ricotta and Spinach with Gongorzola cheese and Walnut, a velvety look with a kick of powerful Gorgonzola taste. Yummy!

The Raviolone with Ricotta cheese, Spinach and Egg Yolk  is an original and elegant first course as well as very tasty. The uniqueness of this dish is that the ravioli has a filling made of a soft nest of ricotta and spinach which contains a raw egg yolk. The egg inside is cooked thoroughly but stays soft, therefore as soon as you’ll cut into the Raviolone the yolk will slide out giving a bright but warm yellow colour to the dish.

Gnocchi alla Sorrentina is an homemade fresh pasta dish made in the Sorrento style, it may reminds you of walking along Sorrento’s cliffside coastline and looking down onto Marinas Grande and Piccola and out onto the blue bay of Naples. In its bright colours you may see tiles painted with bright reds, greens, yellows, blues, and pinks. Colors swirled together forming scenes of coastal villages, houses on hillsides, bougainvillea covered terraces with ocean views, lemons and lemon groves, and maze of narrow streets lined with souvenir shops.
