Santa Cruz is shopping heaven.
Dive right in and practice your haggling skills with a variety
of wares, such as electronic goods, designer accessories,
alcohol and handmade gifts. Head for the port area, with its
many museums of anthropology, and archeology. And when all that
is done, or maybe in between, pop into one of the plentiful bars
and restaurants, with their international flavour. A city
steeped in history, Santa Cruz has an atmosphere unlike any
other.
The Island's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a bustling city
with a true cosmopolitan feel. Situated on the coast, it has a
truly unique Island character. It is easy to lose yourself in
the many streets and pedetranised areas, whilst being distracted
by the countless shops, and bargains to be had. It is also home
to the Auditorio de Tenerife - a stunning building, which looks
it best after dark when it's floodlights highlight its beauty.
Despite being the administrative center of the Canary Islands (a
title it shares with Las Palmas in Gran Canaria), and the
largest city on the Island, Santa Cruz is still tremendously
laid back. there are countless beautiful parks, and children's'
areas dotted about the city, and driving here is not for the
faint hearted!
February is Carnival time here, and Santa Cruz does not do
things by halves. The colours, the music, the atmosphere - all
go to add to a truly amazing experience for any visitor. People
have likened it to the Copacabana of Rio de Janeiro.
