Centro de Ocio Rubimar

Centro de Ocio ForumCentro de Ocio Menus

Restaurant – Pizzera – Casino

There is a gem of a bar in Playa Blanca, situated outside the Rubimar Shopping Centre at the Marina Rubicon. With great snacks and tapas, and a fabulous range of drinks and ice creams… this place has plenty to offer the grownups. However… it doesn’t just end there. There is also a great play area for the children, a huge range of fruit machines and games machines, and of course the inimitable Paolo himself.

This Centro de Ocio (translates to “Leisure Centre” in English) is open every single day of the year… including Christmas Day. It opens at 8:30 every morning, and stays open until late. There is plenty of parking around the corner… and it is in close proximity to the Marina itself, as well as the Rubimar shopping centre that it is attached to.

On draught, Tropical beer is available, and in bottles there is Coronita, Heineken, San Miguel, Budweiser, Dorada, Magners, Guinness and Tropical. All of your favourite spirits and mixers are available, and of course there is a great range of cocktails!! You can buy wine by the glass or the bottle… red, white or rosé.

This is absolutely the place to come and grab your ice creams to help ward off the Playa Blanca heat. There is Kalise and Nestle available… ice lollies and a wide range of soft scoop flavours too.

The menu is very varied. You can have everything from burgers to cooked breakfasts… as well as pizzas and tapas. We can highly recommend the food here as it is hearty and great value. You can even pick up a tasty hot roast chicken for just €6! See the link to the menus at the top of this page for more details and prices.

New to the Centro de Ocio are the fabulous iced coffees – Clásico, Freduccino, Mokalatte and Fondant – all made with Nescafé.

There is entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm until 11pm – with live singing.

You can sit indoors, or grab a table on either of the two sun terraces (fantastic spot for people watching). There are two large television screens showing all the latest from Sky Sports. The bar also offers free WiFi to its customers. Just ask the bar staff for the password.

And then there is Paolo himself. He is a real character, and will make you feel very welcome. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish, English and German… and these are just the languages we have heard. He is a true entertainer himself, and will make you want to visit again and again for the laughs.

The Salon de Juegos is located between the Rubimar Shopping Centre and the Marina Rubicon, just next to the mini roundabout. We’ll see you there!

Wax Bar

Welcome to The Wax Bar

“Sports by day … Relax at night”

Open since May 2005, Wax Bar offers a unique experience on the island with an open invite to all, relaxing atmosphere, big screens, comfortable seating and a wide variety of drinks at the right prices – just what YOU need to make your holiday just that … a holiday.

Wax Bar is in Centro Comercial Papagayo (the commercial centre with Burger King) which is situated behind the biggest beach in Playa Blanca – Dorada beach.

When Wax was designed we took the viewing of major sports events as a high consideration and for this we have become known as the “Wax Theatre of Dreams” for many a fan who can watch the game on our 42″ plasma screen without the fear of someone blocking their view.

Football … Futbol … Football

Premiership, La Liga, Champions League, Internationals, Carling Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup, Coca-Cola Championship, Bundesliga … if we’ve missed it just come and ask!

We obviously don’t just show football… So whether its Cricket, Rugby Union, Super League, Tennis, Golf, Snooker, Formula One, World Rally Championship, Darts or some other sport that takes your fancy then we will be showing it on one of our plasma screens.

However sport is not the only reason to come and visit us (Sports by day … Relax at night) and so the “bus seating” (as one of our regulars calls it) is moved after the big games. So in the evenings you can expect even more!

Monday: Karaoke from 10pm with Karaoke Davey

Tuesday: Quiz night. Teams of 4. 1st prize = bottle of bubbly. 2nd prize = round of shots

Wednesday: “Pick & Mix”. No not a bag of sweets from Woolworths – this is “You pick it, and we’ll play it”

Friday: Every Friday is Poker Night!!!

Saturday: Yes, Karaoke Davey is back for his second slot in the week.

Alternate Saturdays: The biggest and best snake show on the Island – only at Wax Bar!!

Sunday: Comedy and chill out music night

To find us, walk along the promenade from the town towards the new marina and the centre is on your left. Wax Bar is on level 1.

The Snug

Snug Forum | Snug Menus

For bars in Faro Park, Playa Blanca – visitors and residents have a real treat in the shape of The Snug Bar, right in the heart of Faro Park itself. It also affords really easy access from Goleta and Shangri-la, and everywhere to the west of Montaña Roja. Go visit, and find out about the secrets Faro Park has been guarding so fiercely.

The Snug, Playa Blanca has become a firm favourite with locals and visitors. Here are the latest fun nights they have already happening!

Monday nights: Poker League.
Tuesday nights: Crib
Thursday nights: Ladies’ poker night
Friday nights: Racing fun
Saturday nights: X-Factor (until Christmas 2008)

They also have regular events planned… such as their very popular Chinese nights, where everyone meets for drinks at The Snug, before getting a coach to Arrecife. They have drinks at the bar in The Grand Hotel (whilst enjoying the views from the tallest building in Lanzarote), and then have a great Chinese meal in Arrecife. It’s back to The Snug for about 11:30pm, for more drinks until about 2am. There are always parties organized. Halloween, Christmas Eve, New Year’s, Summer Solstice, Oscars – and much more! Keep checking the forum for more information.

For the kids there are all sorts of fun board games and card games… so your children will be happy too. They have their own pool table out on the terrace too… which is just €1 per game!!

John and Julie endeavour constantly to keep this friendly Playa Blanca pub as close to your local back in England as possible… and they’ve certainly got the recipe right. There are your favourite beers on draught – including Guinness that is actually brewed in Ireland (instead of Spain), and which is revered by many who say it’s the best pint of the black stuff in the resort. On Sunday lunchtimes they pile on lots of roast potatoes – always good with plenty of salt.

You can book big game fishing at The Snug, on the Blue Delfin. For sports fans they show all the best sports: football, Grand Prix, golf, darts, boxing and more… as they have Showtime, Digitalb, and Sky Sports (Setanta coming soon)

Each month there is a fun quiz competition. In November 2008 for example, it’s to guess how much money is in the bottle on the bar. Go try your luck!

The Snug is air conditioned indoors, to keep the heat off indoors, or you can stretch out on the sun terrace and watch the world go by. There’s plenty of parking, or you can get the bus there – which drops you almost at the door. A taxi from the centre of town should only cost €3 – €4… so there’s no excuse for you not to go and visit.

It’s always fun at The Snug – it’s your home from home!

Lighthouse Cafe, The

Lighthouse Cafe Forum | Lighthouse Cafe Menus

For places to eat in Playa Blanca, the Lighthouse Café in Faro Park is one of the locals’ favourites… and certainly one of ours! Steve and Steph took over this popular haunt in may 2008, and pride themselves on highest quality of home cooked British fayre. Every chip… every roast potato… every vegetable… gravy… and pie are all home cooked, and the visitor figures are speaking for themselves.

Based in Faro Park, this Playa Blanca cafe is spacious, and includes both an indoor seating area, as well as a large outdoor terrace. This café is open seven days a week. Monday to Saturdays it is 9am until 9pm, and Sundays are 9am until 6pm. There is an extremely wide and varied menu, including an extended menu for specials, and the largest range of vegetarian meals in the resort.

Friday nights are extremely popular since Steve and Steph started dishing up their fish and chip supper nights. The beer batter is freshly made, and encases the largest pieces of cod you are likely to find for miles around. For just €8.50, you can have the cod in batter, served with hand chipped potatoes, and mushy peas. For a euro less, there is haddock, chips and mushy peas – again the haddock is cooked in the excellent beer batter. Recent customers have said that the fish and chips are better than Harry Ramsdens – a fine claim indeed!

Sundays bring the extremely popular roast dinners – for which we highly recommend that you book. The choice of meats is roast chicken, roast beef and roast pork – and also lamb shank if you pre-book. This is all served with hand prepared vegetables, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, and home made Yorkshire puddings. Even the gravy is made from scratch… which is why Sundays are always busy at the Lighthouse Café. There is a good range of desserts available – and if you spot the crumble on the menu, then order yours fast – because they sell out very very quickly.

Their all day breakfasts are beyond reproach – and at great prices too! Just €4 can give you a breakfast with egg, bacon, sausage, beans or tomatoes, hash brown, mushrooms, toast, and a tea or orange juice – great value for money.

For those special occasions such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s, Christmas Day, Easter Sunday and more – special set menus are available at great prices – and again we recommend that you book to ensure your seats.

A full takeaway menu is also available, for picnics on the beach, or relaxing in your Playa Blanca villa or apartment.

Keep an eye on the Lighthouse Café over the spring and summer of 2009, as they have taken over the large unit next door… and will be extending their business across. This enables them to service their current clientele even more… as well as welcoming new customers too. They have a pool table on the terrace, and internet pods so you can keep in touch with friends and family at home. You can also check the local bus times, which are prominently displayed in their entrance.

Fish and chips nights, steak nights, Sunday roasts – and all of their menu are available for you, as well as your favourite drinks. So pop a note in your diary to visit the Lighthouse Café – you won’t be disappointed. They also have highchairs and booster seats for the kiddies – as well as a good children’s menu.

To find the Lighthouse café… head into Faro Park, and it is situated almost at the end of the row of shops on the left hand side.

To book your table in advance – you can telephone 0034 616 132 102. Please mention Canary Nightlife when booking.
