La Chalanita

La Chalanita Forum | La Chalanita Menu

Places to eat in Playa Blanca, especially on the seafront, are all of good quality – but one stands head and shoulders above the rest. La Chalanita opened under new management in the summer of 2009… and has been lovingly renovated.. bringing many many hungry eaters through its doors.

The new owners, Jose and Roman are already well known to regular visitors to Playa Blanca as they were at Almacen de La Sal for 15 years before embarking on their new project. This has already brought them a thriving loyal trade of repeat guests… as well as new faces all wanting to sample the delicacies on offer.

La Chalanita means “rowing boat” in Spanish.. and describes the small boats that take the Canarian fishermen out to their larger fishing vessels… ready to bring the freshest seafood to your table. Both Jose and Roman speak excellent English… so if you are a little nervous about practicing your Spanish… then Jose and Roman can help you to worry only about which of the wonderful meals to try.

Jose and Roman have utilised their knowledge of the best suppliers in Lanzarote to bring you the freshest meat and fish for your dining pleasure. Located next door to Casa Pedro, La Chalanita is on the first floor with exceptional views across the water to Fuerteventura, as well as breathtaking views of the Marina Rubicon.

Being an indoor dining area… it is perfect for when the evenings are a little to chilly to sit outside. The dining area is beautifully decorated with plenty of greenery, beautifully laid tables, and Lanzarote photographs. For those balmy days and evenings, there is also a limited amount of seating outside on the promenade… perfect for watching the world go by.

The menu has been kept simple but of the highest quality with such delights as Uga smoked salmon, roast baby lamb shoulder, duck confit with figs sauce, chateaubriand, Norway lobster, white prawns from Huelva, sea bass loins in cava, Iberian pork fillet with boletus and foie sauce, various fillet steak dishes, rice with angler-fish and lobster hot-pot, red tuna fish with glazed onions and soya sauce, and of course the freshest fish caught locally… just for a start. There is also a good selection of vegetarian dishes such as cannelloni with spinach and pine nuts, rice sautéed with pineapple and asparagus, and more. For those special occasions… you can preorder suckling pig, baby goat or lamb.

Jose and Roman take their wine selection very seriously, and have an excellent array of wines available. Local Lanzarote wines, including the ever popular Bermejo, as well as reservas and riojas are all available. Of course beers, spirits and liqueurs are available, as well as a good range of hot drinks and soft beverages.

You can enter La Chalanita from two directions. Firstly from the seafront, up the stairs next door to Casa Pedro… or if mobility and stairs are an issue, then head around the rear for a level floor entrance. It is located 75m to the right of the town centre beach as you face away from the water.
