The Italian Job

A new Italian restaurant in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote opened its doors for the first time in September 2010. A familiar face is the owner… the ever popular Fabio. Fabio originated from Sophia Loren’s city of Napoli – a fact of which he is fiercely proud.

He began his restaurant career away from home back in 1995, when he was washing up in restaurants in Puerto Banus. This instilled a work ethic in him that has served him well. From there he ventured to British shores, working hard and learning as much about the trade as he could. In 2002 he opened his first restaurant, “That’s Amore”, in Chiswick, London.

In 2005 he followed the sunshine, and arrived in Lanzarote, and was best known for being the smiling face of “Made in Italy”. Made in Italy was popular, but unfortunately access for prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs was always an issue. So it was with great excitement that Playa Blanca greeted Fabio’s opening of “The Italian Job”, which offers much easier access for everyone.

This Italian restaurant is the only one in Playa Blanca now where the owner is also at the helm every single day… always with a big smile, and a very warm welcome. Fabio takes customer satisfaction extremely seriously, and people return year after year to see him, and to sample his authentic Napolitan food. Family comes first for Fabio – and this is very apparent in the way that families are treated here. Children are welcomed and encourage to try new foods, and the ambience is cosy and relaxing enough for the parents to relax during their meal.

The food is cooked in the traditional Napolitan way… with such delights as the homemade pasta from Amalfi. The “Ravioli Don Corleone”, made with scialatielli pasta is a very popular dish… so if dining later on during the day, do phone ahead and place your order. All bread and pizza dough is freshly made every single day on the premises, and Fabio sources the finest fresh ingredients to ensure that every dish is perfect.

The desserts are also homemade… profiteroles, tiramisu, pannacotta and caprese. The coffee is Italian of course, and there is a good range of Italian wines to accompany your meal. The house wines too, are Italian – so every aspect of your meal is authentic. The house red is from Sicily, and the Chardonnay is from Venice. Fabio is proud to present “Brunello de Montecino” and “Amarone della Valpolicella” for the connoisseurs amongst you. And of course, there is always Pinot Grigio available.

On draft there is Peroni, an Italian beer… and you can also enjoy Grappa, Amaretto, and Limoncello from Sorrento.

For atmosphere, Fabio and his staff are extremely attentive… explaining the menu and drinks fully for you – and you are entertained by rousing, happy Italian music.

The Italian Job provides excellent value for money, as can be seen by clicking on the link to their menus at the top of this page.
